So often, especially with Shakespeare, we’re lead to believe it’s not for us. That you’ve got to sound a certain way and be of a certain class or culture to tell these stories and play these roles. When you’re from a minority background you have to create it in order for them to see and understand.

This didn’t feel like a job, it felt like a necessity for the South Asian community. Bringing a story to life which needed to be told. I’m so grateful to have been entrusted with this character in this precious offering to world.

The fact it was shot on film meant we had a limited number of takes which made it all the more exciting but also means the depiction has a beautiful nostalgic and raw element to it
There will be two screenings of it at the BFI London Film Festival. One on the 8th October and one on the 10th. Hopefully see a few of you there.
