When was the last time you heard your native language? How do you grapple with feelings of foreignness? How can you remember a part of yourself that has been lost to time?
Header/Footer Gallery presents “The Art of Disappearing,” a new virtual exhibition curated by Abigail Prakarsa (@abigail_prakarsa ).
“The Art of Disappearing” brings together artworks by Elaine Chao (@ebchao ), Joseph Morris (@emotivemachine ), and Nimrod Astarhan (@nimrodastarhan ). Through their work, this exhibition attempts to explore the concept of de-culturalization, the abandonment of culture, and what it truly means for someone to lose their heritage.

Welcome New Member @ebchao 🌟
We’re thrilled to welcome Elaine B. Chao to the KUNSTRAUM community!
Elaine is a New York–based artist whose mixed media–digital printmaking blends the tactile and the technological. With a B.A. in Video Art from Rutgers University, she later discovered painting—and from there, forged a singular process that draws on the visual languages of Klee, Gerhard Richter, and Classical Chinese art.
Her work moves fluidly between abstraction and portraiture, often layering digital and painterly techniques to explore the spaces between cultures and disciplines. Recent exhibitions include a_space (Brooklyn, NY) and Solas Studio (NYC), with additional shows in Boulder, Singapore, and Venice.
Elaine currently lives in Queens with her partner and their cat 🐾.
Welcome to KUNSTRAUM, Elaine!
