Another installment of VH1 Behind the Music: “Heaven Felt Too High” 🖤🪽 this is a grief song through and through….I remember being told shortly after my mom passed that the experience of losing one’s mom is something we go through only once in our lives, that it’s a sacred time not to be rushed through, because I was trying to keep it all together and force myself to function “normally” during the most abnormal and disruptive time of one’s life….like most people, losing my mom changed me in fundamental ways that I still can’t completely articulate. I feel closer to death and more comfortable with death than ever before; the notion that I and everyone I know will die is at the forefront of my mind, and I think that’s a positive way to move through life. I’m not afraid of much these days because the worst thing that could have happened, happened…I’m still here so what is there to be scared of?
