. East Window’s Banned Book Club Boulder presents UNALIVE: Readings on Suicide Curated by Charlotte Piper with Aimee Herman, Hillary Leftwich, and Crisosto Apache Thursday, May 21, 2026 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM More info at /events “Suicide impacts many young people, and I recently lost one of my nephews (whom my spouse and I raised, and whose image is on the cover of my book "Ghostword"), and the news of his passing was a shock. Discussing how the theme interjects in creative writing and art is a necessary conversation, so the voices of those who follow through with this decision can have a space to advocate for their memory through the various creative expressions.” — Crisosto Apache “It's interesting to me how I spent so much of my life shielding a huge part of me that wanted to die. How we talk about depression, sadness, anxiety, wanting to no longer exist has more room now to take up space. That, alone, saves lives. What interests me is being about to share some of my own experience in that.” — Aimee Herman “I am a survivor of suicide and also continue to live with extreme depression every day. I find writing and creative aspects help to educate communities who live off stereotypes and also to channel this into something that helps create beauty.” — Hillary Leftwich “My first real experience with suicide was in highschool when I found a dear friend after they’d ended their life. This left an indelible impression in my mind. Throughout adulthood I wrestled with my own preconceived notions and stigmas surrounding the subject until I witnessed the battle through the lens of my own flesh and blood, and subsequently, endured my own battles with suicide. Watching so many people around me struggle brought me to the conclusion that we, as a community, sorely need to actively address and embrace the issue as a collective one, so that we can support and uplift one another in these times of crises.” — Charlotte Piper @the_oracle11 @crisosto_apache @hillary.leftwich #aimeehermanpoet

. Brand New Queers Friday, May 15, 2026 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM $5.00 suggested, no one turned away Join us at East Window for the debut musical performance of Brand New Queers, a gang of poetic misfits, with skin made from scar dust and a need to disrupt. They are made up of Steph Lujan, Cortney Collins, Angela Palermo, Aimee Herman and special guest Martin Dadisman. Steph Lujan is a singer, songwriter, guitarist who writes from the heart and soul--and sometimes the ego. Steph has been playing their way through Longmont and Boulder County all while making new connections with other local artists and having fun along the way. Cortney Collins is a poet living on the Front Range of Colorado with her beloved partner and their five feline loves - Frances, Pablo (after Neruda), Lida Rose (after a barbershop quartet song from The Music Man), Figgy (still about 60% feral), and Mr. Bates (he’s not a psycho at all - he’s very sweet.) Her poetry has been published in a variety of online and print journals. She recently obtained her certification as a Listener Poet with The Good Listening Project. Cortney really should come with a trigger warning except that she doesn’t believe in trigger warnings. Angela Palermo is a poet, performer, musician and activist. She works as a Case Manager for the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. She likes to geek out on movies, music, books and history. Aimee Herman is constantly in search of ways to disrupt spaces through poetry, music, and other forms of creative expression. They are a writer, performance artist, educator, letter writer, misfit and ukulele player (sometimes percussion) with The Brand New Queers. They have a new collection of poetry, "somewhere in the body a nest of anger hatches." They are currently in search of all the ways to disembowel the anger within them. Music helps @stephlujanmusic @wordsaretheuniverse @coloradoangie19 @brandnewqueers #aimeeherman aimeeherman.com @medicineshowdoctor /events

Stay tuned for an artist talk with Julia Vandenoever — More info coming soon. Being Grayson is a photography project about parenting a neurodiverse child as a neurotypical parent. Adjacent programming will engage audiences to think about neurodiversity relative to DEI, and will bring together parents, educators, and neurodivergent individuals to bridge gaps in understanding and to address the topics of dyslexia, ADHD, and school/community support. Julia Vandenoever is a freelance photographer based in Boulder, Colorado. She grew up in Chappaqua, NY and Norwich, Vermont. During her years at Smith College, Julia studied Art History and Photography. In addition, she attended the SALT Center for Documentary studies as well as SEA Semester. . Thank you Julian Alton Cleveland for your beautiful installation and to all of you who came by offering your support to this emerging young artist. Muster: Resistance Through Connection Julian Alton Cleveland “Growing up in a time where the country and the entire world feel so divided, connection itself is a form of resistance.” —Julian Alton Cleveland. Two day exhibit April 28 - 29, 2026 You can view Julian’s work: Tues, April 28, 6:00 - 8:00pm Wed, April 29, 4:30 - 7:30pm East Window 4550 Broadway Ste C-3B2 Boulder CO 80304 [email protected] Julian Alton Cleveland “I am an artist, activist, and musician. I'm in tenth grade and live in Boulder, Colorado. Most of my pieces are experiential, inviting the audience to participate. One of my pieces, titled Womb, features a large fabric womb which can fit fifteen to twenty people inside, acting as a reminder that we all came from the same place. I frequently change mediums and ideas. I have recently begun focusing more on music. A little bit ago, I received a few synthesizers to try out on my own, and with no experience, I set about learning how to use them. I created my first album, Duality of a Robot’s Heart, followed by a second, more recent album, titled Tian. Some of what I am passionate about comes from learning about other artists. My biggest influences are Yoko Ono, Laurie Anderson, and David Bowie. They have taught me, through their work, about bringing people together, how important women are in electronic music, and the idea of impermanence. These concepts are reflected throughout my work. One hope or dream that I have for the future is that people will see each other as human beings and find commonality in one another so that we can build a better future. Fun fact, when I was seven, I wrote my first song, which was about my cat, Rimsky Korsakitty, who had twenty-three toes.” —Julian Alton Cleveland @vignette_stardust Photography ©2026 East Window

. Exhibit closing today, April 25th. Special gallery hours: noon-5pm. Thank you all for showing up for Devaki Murch and My Name is Mimosa, and thank you Devaki for curating such a brilliant exhibit and for touching so many people with your work. My Name is Mimosa April 4 — 25, 2026 4550 Broadway Ste C-3B2 Boulder CO 8O3O4 [email protected] EAST WINDOW.ORG “I never had a hospital record or baby book. I had newspaper headlines. On April 4, 1975, the first evacuation flight of Operation Babylift crashed shortly after take off from Saigon, South Vietnam. 150 children survived - I was one of them. For decades, my origin story lived in archives I'd never seen. Then the archives found me, and I became their keeper. This exhibition is my reconstruction: the news articles, flight documents, and magical connections that turned 50 years of silence into voice. What started as a personal inquiry became a mission to reconnect an entire community with their beginnings”. —Devaki Murch Devaki Murch works where archives play hide and seek and stories refuse to stay quiet. She is an artist, curator, researcher, and experience designer. Her work grows from her own history as an Operation Babylift survivor and expands into archive processing, exhibitions, oral histories, and participatory storytelling projects. She lives somewhere between logistics and art, where ethics matter as much as aesthetics. She resides in Boulder, UT with her sweetheart Ace and their two critters, Seamus O'Doggie and Flynn-Again.
