Many thanks to Chanel Matsunami Govreau for offering such an insightful and dynamic evening of queer opulence, Japanese diaspora and gender fluid sculpture. Big thanks to Teague McDaniel for making this event happen. And of course thanks so much to everyone who showed up.

Teaching art is something that brings me so much joy. I'm grateful to teach at MSU in particular. I get to spend time each semester with incredibly tenacious, authentic, talented, and kind students. I feel honored to have received a Faculty Award of Excellence in Teaching this year.
My family and I had a really nice time at the award ceremony this evening. My kiddo introduced himself to over 50 people and asked for so many autographs that his page for autographs filled up. He was so excited he even elected to go on stage to accept the award with me. Pictured you see:
1. An image showing the award graphic by the University
2. My child and I with the school's mascot in front of balloons
3. image of a child with arms outreached excited to get an autograph of the Roadrunner Mascot who is wearing a suit and red bird costume head
4. Faculty Excellence award winners on stage (I'm second from left in blue suit jacket)
5. Picture of autographs my child gathered
6. My child looking at the award, I'm on the left next to the presenter, the mascot is on the right. We're all looking at the child holding the award.
So grateful to be showing "Sitting With It" an interactive todeum of dye sublimated collage on masks. Made in collaboration with Venture Merz made possible by Stitching the Situation and the Insite Fund

It was such a treat to breathe new life into previous works through a remix at @spacespace.art during the thoughtfully organized happenings by @___nathans from @undertow_editions for their one year anniversary exhibition
Included works: excerpts from "Grapple", a costume I made for an installation art course years ago, the presentation of a work from the Post Gender Euphoria series, and the reading of an excerpt of a poem. I had never read poetry at an event before. It was a treat to have room to experiment and play
Image: an artist sitting with their head sideways and arm partially outstretched in a sewn fabric "rock" lit by magenta lighting on a gray hard floor of an art gallery. A poll of a flag that's a part of the installed exhibition leans against the wall to the left of the performer.
So excited to be a part of this event with so many talented artists! Thanks @___nathans for including me.
Saturday 5-7pm
Live event (I'll be reading on the earlier side)

Epic evening!
Thank you to everyone who made this trek with MG Bernard. Many thanks MG for your brilliance and clarity. Thank you Teague for putting this all together, to all the participating performers and to Nod Norkus and everyone at NoBo Arts.
The Things They Carry : a performance featuring MG Bernard.
Curated by Teague McDaniel.
Saturday, July 26, 2025
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
MG Bernard crawled from NoBo Bus Stop Gallery to East Window Gallery chained to the "medical industrial complex" (i.e., a bunch of their pill bottles filled with concrete & lead shot capsules) in effort to make visible the hidden labor of navigating a hyper-ableist society, especially as it relates to those with invisible disabilities. MG debuted this performance, equating physical weight with the weight of the cost and access to healthcare and medication for chronically ill and disabled people.
This event is part of WOVEN INTERSECTIONS
Curated by Teague McDaniel.
