Well we’re doing it again. Another milestone birthday for another of the greatest artists we’ve ever had means another excuse to gather 30+ of Nashville’s finest singers and musicians and joyously play songs of said artist all night long, all to raise money for @2harvestmidtn . Dang y’all!
Won’t you join us at 7 pm Sunday 5/24 at @skinnydennis_nash where we will play Bob Dylan songs covering 7 freakin’ decades, backed by a raging house band and more singers than my high school math education will allow me to count! All the info is on the poster, so read up and we’ll see you there. Thank you Bob for all the inspiration. 💫
Much gratitude to @renobo for the ace poster art.
Have you ever wished you could simultaneously celebrate my birth AND Jesus’ rebirth? Great news! @weirdpalsmusic is at The 5 Spot this upcoming Easter Sunday, which just so happens to be the eve of my 35th birthday! Throw a Hawaiian shirt over your Sunday best and come party with us.

We were the best fucking band in Rhode Island. You were the best bassist. You always found the perfect harmony. You believed in me and encouraged me long before a lot of others did. You had the biggest smile, laugh, and heart. We had so many amazing adventures together. Even with the struggles you’d had in recent years, I kept holding out hope that the four of us would get to do it again sometime. I’m absolutely gutted, man. I love you, Ollie.
Rhode Island friends and family! The band is back together for the first time in four years tomorrow night, and superfriends Smith&Weeden have just been added to the bill! It would make my holiday season to see you there; tickets are limited, grab them now at the Pump House website!
Josh Buckley was a friend of mine. He was originally from the Boston area, but in troubadour fashion, found himself at various points out in Seattle, Austin, Winston-Salem, and occasionally, just living and touring out of his van. We were on quite a few bills together in the mid 2010’s, and finally joined forces for the first time when I drummed for him at a Petty tribute show in late 2017. I still go back to the recording of that set from time to time; it fucking crushed.
He tapped me to drum for three shows in the summer of 2018, additionally asking me to play a set of my own music every night. I hadn’t consistently played my original material in a few years at that point, so it meant a lot to me that he gave me that opportunity. Those three days were some of the funnest I’ve ever had on the road. We ended the last night in Clarksdale playing a spontaneous two hour set of whatever Neil, Petty, Dylan, and Beatles covers we could remember off the top of our heads, everyone switching instruments and learning the songs as we went along.
That was Buckley in a nutshell. He didn’t plan much in advance. Often times, it was to his detriment, but like so many great artists, he understood that spontaneity and unpredictability could yield honest, pure, beautiful results.
He had his fair share of struggles; as of last week, he’s no longer with us, and as usual, I’m kicking myself for not being more in touch with him over the last few years. But I’m so grateful for his friendship, and that he left behind some wonderful music.
Josh Buckley was a friend of mine and I love him very much. I love you guys, too; take care of yourselves and check in on your friends. I promise I will try to be better about doing this myself.
@misterjeremydylan ’s guest today is Nashville-based multi-instrumentalist and songwriter @dylansevey , best known for his work with @theminksss , @rongallo , @aaronleetasjan , and the incredible @alfredyankovic tribute band @weirdpalsmusic . Dylan joins Jeremy to discuss Weird Al’s 1999 masterpiece ‘Running With Scissors’.
The two chat about the entirely unique place Weird Al has carved for himself within the music industry, how he laid the cultural ground work for future musical comedy acts, the depth of respect and research he puts into each genre he parodies, the origin story of Weird Pals, how at its core Yankovic’s catalogue is a celebration of all genres of music, the extraordinary art of the Weird Al polka, and how both a Weird Al concert and a Weird Pals show provides a level of musical breadth and diversity you’re unlikely to experience elsewhere. Listen now at our bio link. 🔗
(For those attending Weird Al Yankovic’s show at @ascend_amphitheater in Nashville on Sept 20, Weird Pals will be playing an after party gig across the road at @acmenashville after the show. We’ll see you there!)
