The Red Sea Film Foundation was delighted to host the “Women in Cinema” initiative, held on the sidelines of the 79th Cannes Film Festival. The event celebrates five extraordinary women who have excelled both in front of and behind the camera, blazing a trail for female talent across the globe.
This year’s #WomenInCinema honorees include Aixa Kay, Tara Sutaria, Laïla Marrakchi, Genevieve Nnaji, Marie-Clémentine Dusabejambo and Kamila Andini.

سعدت #مؤسسة_البحر_الأحمر_السينمائي باستضافة مبادرة “المرأة في السينما” التي أقيمت على هامش الدورة الـ79 من مهرجان كان السينمائي، ويسلط الضوء على خمس نساء فريدات تألّقن أمام وخلف والكاميرا، ومهّدن الطريق لإلهام المواهب النسائية حول العالم.

قبل حفل المرأة في السينما الليلة، الذي يقام على هامش الدورة الـ79 من مهرجان كان، انضمّت ٥ من مكرّمات هذه السنة: عائشة كاي، وتارا سوتاريا، وجينيفيف نناجي، وماري كليمنتين دوسابيجامبو، وكاملة انديني، إلى استوديو ديدلاين ضمن مهرجان كان.

In attendance were 5 of our 6 spotlighted women, including Aixa Kay, Genevieve Nnaji, Tara Sutaria, Marie-Clémentine Dusabejambo and Kamila Andini, in addition to #RedSeaFilmFoundation CEO Faisal Baltyuor, Managing Director Shivani Pandya Malhotra, Director of International Programming Finn Halligan, Red Sea Souk Director Holly Daniels, Red Sea Labs Director Ryan Ashore and others.

ضمن فعاليات مهرجان كان السينمائي في نسخته الـ 79، أعلنت مؤسسة البحر الأحمر السينمائي عن أسماء 6 مكرّمات في حفلها السنوي “المرأة في السينما”؛ احتفاءً بإبداعات المرأة ودورها المؤثر في صناعة السينما، سواء من قدمن بصمات لافتة على الشاشة أوخلف الكاميرا.
تشهد نسخة هذا العام حدثاً استثنائياً بتكريم ثلاث سيدات من القارة الأفريقية للمرة الأولى، وتضم القائمة أسماءً لامعة من السعودية، المغرب، الهند، نيجيريا، رواندا، وإندونيسيا.
يأتي هذا التكريم تأكيداً على أهمية حضور المرأة في المشهد السينمائي العالمي، ودورها في تقديم أعمال تعكس قضايا متنوعة وتجارب إنسانية تركت أثراً لدى الجمهور والنقاد على حدٍ سواء.

The Red Sea Film Foundation returns to Cannes for its annual Women in Cinema gala — spotlighting trailblazing talents from the Arab world, Africa, and Asia.
This year, we’re proud to spotlight Marie-Clémentine Dusabejambo.
Born in Rwanda, Marie-Clementine Dusabejambo’s journey as a filmmaker started in 2008, when she joined a group of young filmmakers in her neighborhood in Almond Tree Films. In 2010, she responded to a call-out for a script competition by the Tribeca Film Institute, which she won. This victory enabled her to make her first short film, “LYIZA,” which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2011 and won a Bronze Tanit at the Carthage Film Festival in 2012. Clementine worked as a researcher for “Why We Hate?”, a documentary series by Steven Spielberg and Alex Gibney. Her short films have been presented and awarded at several festivals, including the Carthage Film Festival, where she won the Tanit de Bronze in 2012 and 2018 in Carthage. Her first feature film, “Ben’Imana”, has been officially selected to screen in Cannes 2026 - Un Certain Regard.

تعود مؤسسة البحر الأحمر السينمائي إلى مهرجان كان لاستضافة فعالية المرأة في السينما السنوية، لتكريم المواهب النسائية الرائدة من العالم العربي وإفريقيا وآسيا.
هذا العام، نفخر بتسليط الضوء على المخرجة ماري-كليمنتين دوسابجامبو.
ولدت ماري-كليمنتين دوسابجامبو في رواندا، وبدأت مسيرتها كمخرجة أفلام في عام 2008. عُرض فيلمها القصير الأول، ”ليازا“، لأول مرة في مهرجان تريبيكا السينمائي عام 2011. عملت كليمنتين باحثة في سلسلة الأفلام الوثائقية ”لماذا نكره؟“ من إخراج ستيفن سبيلبرغ وأليكس جيبني. وقد عُرضت أفلامها القصيرة وحصدت جوائز في العديد من المهرجانات. ”بنيمانا“ هو أول فيلم روائي طويل لها يتم اختياره رسمياً في مهرجان كان 2026 ضمن قسم ”نظرة ما“.

From Rwanda to the red carpet at Cannes 🎬✨
Ben’Imana, directed by Marie-Clementine Dusabejambo, is the first winner of the TUI Care Foundation Award of the World Cinrma Fund. Set in Rwanda, Ben’Imana tells a deeply human story of reconciliation, identity and generational conflict in the aftermath of the genocide against the Tutsi. Through the journey of a survivor supporting others in rebuilding their lives, the film reflects the complexities of healing and moving forward.
By prioritising local talent, primarily from Rwanda and across the region, the project strengthens skills, builds experience and supports the growth of the African film industry. 💡🎬
