I just adore this painting by @ducvanphamart which depicts the statue of Mary from the grotto on Meath street. And here she is floating over the Liberties. D8 Artist Spotlight: Duc Van Pham @ducvanphamart 🎨 For over fifteen years, Dublin 8 has been home to Duc Van Pham, a place where memory, migration and everyday life quietly shape his work. Originally from Saigon, Duc’s practice is rooted in observation, capturing the people, streets and small moments that define the Liberties. Working across abstract expressionist portraiture, his paintings explore identity, culture and the stories people carry, blending emotion, colour and lived experience into something both personal and universal. In this conversation, Duc reflects on his journey from Vietnam to Ireland, and how Dublin 8 gradually became a second home. From the energy of Meath Street to the humour, resilience and connection in the community, his work draws directly from the life around him. His latest exhibition, CeLiberties, is both a celebration and a reflection, inspired by the characters, conversations and everyday encounters that make the area what it is. Stories like his neighbour Dessie, moments of banter on the street, and a growing sense of belonging all find their way into the work 👀 Rather than documenting the Liberties as it looks, Duc paints how it feels, layered, human and full of life. Culture Date with Dublin 8 ~ 4th - 10th May, 📍 The Digital Hub is delighted to host 'CeLiberties', an exhibition by @ducvanphamart as part of the @culturedatewithdublin8 festival. Dublin 8 based artist @ducvanphamart presents a new exhibition as part of @culturedatewithdublin8 , a heartfelt celebration of life in the Liberties. Living in the area for over fifteen years, Duc reflects on a deep sense of belonging, drawing parallels between his upbringing in Ho Chi Minh City and the every day rhythms of Dublin 8. Through expressive, atmospheric paintings, he captures the spirit of the neighbourhood, its people, places and quiet moments of connection. Blending memory, observation and feeling, the work offers a warm and personal portrait of a community that has shaped his life. The full programme is now live, unfolding across a week of events that celebrate the stories, creativity and communities of Dublin 8. The Digital Hub will be hosting THREE events on our campus as part of @culturedatewithdublin8 . ~ CeLiberties: An Exhibition by Duc Van Pham ~ An exhibition by @ducvanphamart celebrating his deep connection to The Liberties neighborhood, his home for fifteen years. Pham captures the everyday beauty, history and vibrant community of the area, reflecting on how it has embraced him and given him a sense of belonging. The exhibition pays tribute to both the old and new aspects of the Liberties, focusing on personal stories and the spirit of the people who make the place special. 📍 The exhibition will be available to view from 5th - 10th May at The Bank at The Digital Hub. ~ Change Clothes Presents: Gulliver’s Swap Stop ~ Gulliver’s Tag & Trade is a hands-on swap and making workshop led by Change Clothes as part of Culture D8. Inspired by the spirit of Gulliver’s Travels, the event invites participants to reflect on movement, exchange and storytelling through clothing. The session blends practical skill-building with creativity and conversation. 📍 The workshop will take place from 6:00pm - 8:00pm on Friday, 8th May in @changeclothesdublin studio at The Digital Hub. ~ The Liberties Community Project Presents: Beekeeping Experience ~ Discover the fascinating world of bees with a 1.5-hour Beekeeping Experience—an unforgettable opportunity to meet the bees, learn how they live and communicate and gain hands-on insight into the essential role of beekeepers in sustaining our environment. 📍 The experience will take place from 2:00pm - 3:30pm on Tuesday, 5th May at Leo Freeman Meadow at The Digital Hub. This week I met @vedalady to give her a study painting I’d made as a thank you for modelling and being a muse. It was such a pleasure to paint Veda and I know I will be making more as I am fully inspired by them & all they do for AIDS awareness. Please check out @pozvibepod also thanks so much to @lauraleeguiney from @baggot_framing for doing such a professional job with the framing. I highly recommend them for art framing as the love and care they deliver makes me feel such an appreciation for my art and their prices are reasonable too. I’m overwhelmed by all who came to my show and allowed for such a wonderful celebration and experience. I can’t get over the amazing feedback & the love that was expressed for my work. I put so much energy into it that I was wondering how people would receive it and I am blown away by how much people loved my work. Community is everything and I want to say thanks to @flux_dublin Chris and @jennykeogh @vedalady @sosuraka @aoifedonohue @felipesnm @lauraleeguiney @baggot_framing @jolinsvietnamesecoffeehouse and especially my wife and partner in crime @kiki_na_art and I want to thank all my new collectors who bought my work! Also to the 500 plus people who visited thank you so much! This was one of those moments where being an artist is really worth it!
