D8 Artist Spotlight: Duc Van Pham
@ducvanphamart 🎨
For over fifteen years, Dublin 8 has been home to Duc Van Pham, a place where memory, migration and everyday life quietly shape his work. Originally from Saigon, Duc’s practice is rooted in observation, capturing the people, streets and small moments that define the Liberties.
Working across abstract expressionist portraiture, his paintings explore identity, culture and the stories people carry, blending emotion, colour and lived experience into something both personal and universal.
In this conversation, Duc reflects on his journey from Vietnam to Ireland, and how Dublin 8 gradually became a second home. From the energy of Meath Street to the humour, resilience and connection in the community, his work draws directly from the life around him.
His latest exhibition, CeLiberties, is both a celebration and a reflection, inspired by the characters, conversations and everyday encounters that make the area what it is. Stories like his neighbour Dessie, moments of banter on the street, and a growing sense of belonging all find their way into the work 👀
Rather than documenting the Liberties as it looks, Duc paints how it feels, layered, human and full of life. At its core, the exhibition is about connection, and the importance of community in shaping how we see the world🌍
