There’s something deeply rewarding about growing your own food. Even a small garden can reconnect us with nature, encourage healthier eating habits, and provide a meaningful way to reduce stress. You don’t need a large space to get started. A few herbs, leafy greens, or tomatoes can be enough to bring fresh flavor and nourishment into your kitchen. Gardening is also a reminder that good health often begins with simple daily practices rooted in balance and connection to the natural world. Visit drweil.com for more wellness and anti-inflammatory living tips.

What we choose to eat every day has the power to influence inflammation, energy, heart health, and overall wellbeing. An anti-inflammatory diet is not about extremes or quick fixes. It is about building meals around whole, colorful, nutrient-dense foods that help the body function at its best. Small choices add up over time. Start with one simple shift today. Turmeric is one of my favorite spices for supporting a healthy inflammatory response naturally. Its active compound, curcumin, has been studied for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which is why I often recommend incorporating turmeric into your daily routine through food and cooking. At WEIL Nutrition Corner™, we share practical ways to use ingredients like turmeric as part of an anti-inflammatory lifestyle, along with recipes, wellness guidance, and nutrition insights to help support long-term health. Energy medicine, otherwise known as biofield therapy, is part of whole-person care. Visit the VA’s Whole Health Library and you’ll find an entire chapter of Passport to Whole Health dedicated to energy medicine. Cultures and time-tested traditions across history have language to explain the nature of energy, consciousness, and the physical. You may recognize some of them — prana, chi, and qi, to name a few. While there is great opportunity for research in this space, energy medicine has been used in traditional healing systems like Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries. Today, energy medicine’s footprint continues to expand in modern medicine. Many VA hospitals offer energy medicine. Some healthcare systems use Reiki or Therapeutic Touch to support surgical and cancer patients. Acupuncture is used to balance energy flow for a variety of conditions. Dr. Andrew Weil and AWCIM’s Director of Education, Dr. Ann Marie Chiasson, have seen great results with energy medicine in clinical practice. It is not an alternative to conventional medicine, it is a complementary therapy that is typically low risk and widely available. For this reason, we include energy medicine in our curriculum at the University of Arizona Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. Have you experienced Reiki, acupuncture, or therapeutic touch?

It’s important to learn healthy ways to manage stress and adopt healthy habits like breath work and exercise. But some supplements can also be helpful. Adaptogens like ashwagandha can help the body build resilience. Magnesium plays a role in relaxation and sleep. L-theanine, found in tea, promotes calm without sedation. Kava may ease tension when used properly. And St. John’s wort has been studied for its effects on mood. Always choose high-quality products and speak with your healthcare provider before starting anything new. For more on managing stress naturally, visit drweil.com.

My own supplement routine is fairly simple. I focus on a few that support my needs. I always suggest starting with your diet first. Many of the nutrients your body needs can come from whole, balanced meals, with supplements used to fill in the gaps when necessary.
