We’re also looking ahead to February #halfterm, when Kaleidoscope Devon will be at The Yard with their Shipwrecked minicamp (ages 5–10), running 16–20 Feb. The latest Artz+ Sportz+ Feb half-term programme is OUT NOW – with some brand-new exciting activities and days out. As this is a five week term there is a shorter than usual booking period, so don't delay get in quick! New for February! Children can swing and tumble to their hearts content at Riversmeet Gymnastics, Gillingham on 17th February. Step aboard our special Dorset train adventure from Weymouth on 19th February (includes a stopover in Poole to play some fab arcade games!) Hear the drums calling from Bridport Youth & Community Centre on 20th Feb and have lots of rhythmic fun discovering new beats in this fab drum workshop! And of course we have our ever-popular, super Sensory Swim events in Weymouth on February 16th and Sturminster Newton on February 18th – book early to secure your child’s place, email [email protected]. An amazing day at @exetercustomhouse #summeratthequayside thanks to all the cool families who joined us today ( luckily we were in the shade of the beautiful transit shed …we feel for our pals @drum_devon and @higher_beings_circus who were over in the Piazza 🥵 …We heard you were great 🤩🥳😅 ) We had a lovely stream of creative children weaving together to create ‘Woven in Time’ celebration of Exeter Quay Moments! Great conversations about historical characters on the Quay! We all agreed it would have been a mammoth task to dig the Exeter Canal we’d need to be paid in years supply of ice cream for a hot day of digging! 🤣😅 Can you spot any characters from the Quay sides past and present? Family Day: A Musical Treasure Hunt We are thrilled to announce the final details of our Family Day, featuring an engaging Musical Treasure Hunt across our beautiful town. Your ticket, available for only £5 per person, includes entry to four musical workshops, plus a finale musical event featuring our Artistic Director, Jason Thornton. Complete your Treasure Map for the opportunity to win a wonderful prize! Featured workshops: @drum_devon – Experience authentic world roots drum and percussion with James Carr, an accomplished percussionist Ottery Ringers – Discover the art of handbell ringing with this popular ensemble who have delighted audiences throughout the region. The Beat Goes On – Engage with high-energy body percussion led by Ollie Tunmer, a former cast member of STOMP who has conducted workshops for thousands of participants worldwide. The Power of the Gong – Immerse yourself in the deeply relaxing experience of a Gong Bath, guided by local therapist Alli Colledge. All sessions are designed to appeal to people of all ages – you may participate or simply observe, according to your preference. The Treasure Hunt has been organised in partnership with @shopbudleigh . Participants will receive a map to collect stamps at various local shops as well as at musical events. Here’s more info about the sculpture from yesterday’s post. ‘All-Consuming Void’ Inspired by Caroline Harlow’s commitment to raising awareness of the dark side of gambling and the need for support within the prison system, “All-Consuming Void” was created and displayed for Caroline Harlow’s inauguration as the High Sheriff of Devon at @exetercathedral This willow and origami sculpture was designed and made collaboratively by the men attending weekly art sessions in the Library and Arts Centre at HMP Channings Wood. The Library and Arts Centre at HMP Channings Wood has been developed into a safe and supportive space, where the men can access a wide range of quality fiction and non-fiction books, films and music. Alongside this is a wealth of information, advice and a variety of arts and creative activities and opportunities. Access to literature and the arts supports mental health and wellbeing and offers a pathway into education and potential employment. Thank you to willow artist @vikwestawayart for her support and expertise in creating this sculpture.
