Think life expectancy in 19th-century England was only 40? Think again! While high infant mortality rates skewed the average, many adults actually lived well into their 70s. But reaching 100? That was almost unheard of – until Elizabeth Mountjoy came along… Read her story and discover what our historic registers reveal about life, love and loss through the centuries in our Archivist's latest blog post (visit the 'News & Features' section of our website) #ExeterCathedral #YourCathedral

This morning our Year 8 Choristers sang Morning Prayer from our North Tower, marking Ascension Day. After a stormy night, we had fair weather and fine views across the city. Alleluia! Meet Emily Chircop @e.chircop – a final-year English and Communications student at the University of Exeter. Through the Dissertation by Collaborative Project module, Emily has been working with Exeter Cathedral Library to bring history to life. Her project ‘Medicine in the Making’ dives into the evolution of medical practice in Exeter over the last 250 years. From analysing how local practitioners used these historic texts to exploring Thomas Shapter’s 1832 account of the cholera outbreak, Emily is uncovering the stories hidden within these collections. 🔗 You can read Emily’s blogs in full on our website 📍 In partnership with @exeterenglishcw #ExeterCathedral #YourCathedral

"Being a biker and a priest just fits hand-in-glove." On Sunday, dozens of motorcyclists from across the South West gathered outside Exeter Cathedral for its first ever Blessing of the Bikes ceremony. The event was organised by Father Matthew Cashmore, a priest and biker from Devon. He said afterwards “It was amazing hearing all the bikes revving as they were leaving, making a joyful noise, but not necessarily the noise you would expect from the Cathedral." #ChurchFamily #Bikers @frmatthewcashmore @holymotorbikes @bishop_mikeharrison
