Not just a menu, but a truly gastronomic experience with heartwarming storytelling from @celestialpeach_uk whilst we enjoyed an impeccable array of dishes by @myneighboursthedumplings paired with cocktails from the ever talented @cyanwonderwong - and all focused on one ingredient, Monosodium Glutamate (MSG).
If you don’t have MSG in your cupboard, go and buy some! Add a pinch to your food and drinks to give them an incredible umami kick.

Checked out the new menu at @mambow_ldn on Lower Clapton Road last night.
Malaysian cuisine with a heavy Thai influence from an open kitchen. Good levels of spice for the most part and plenty of aromatics. The rice made with coconut and kaffir lime is a DELIGHT as is the smell when you walk in (after waiting for staff to unlock the door).
1 - Otak-otak prawn toast. Essentially a delicious prawn cake wrapped in a betel leaf with a rich coconut cream and a pickled chilli.
2 - Yong tau foo. The sauce in this is banging. Sweet, spicy, and great textures.
3 - Kerabu jantung pisang. A fragrant banana blossom salad with a load of crunch and spice.
4 - Chilli crab kuih pie tee. Crunchy, crabby, saucy.
5 - Squash kapitan. I’d had a lot of spice by this point so the dish came across quite mild. The squash was very well cooked.
6 - Kerabu sotong. Perfectly tender cuttlefish, we added fresh lime to bring out the brightness. Maybe could do with more spice too?

Verdict: good vibes, friendly staff, tasty dishes, & excellent value. Don’t be afraid to ask for extra chilli as some dishes did seem toned down… for local palates! £45pp with a bottle of wine and full bellies. Can feel the love and work that’s gone into this menu ❤️🍛
