At its core, the Green Revolution represented a scientific and technological endeavor. Visionary scientists, most notably Norman Borlaug, committed their efforts to developing novel, robust, and exceptionally productive high-yielding varieties (HYVs) of essential crops, particularly wheat and rice. These were advanced crop strains engineered for optimal output.
The resulting impact was profoundly revolutionary. Nations that previously contended with persistent food deficits, heavily dependent on imports or international aid, achieved self-sufficiency and, in some instances, became food exporters.
