Outdoor indie music mini-festival @Showbrain_ launched its free show season in Tompkins Square Park despite a foreboding rain forecast that ended up being more of a fine mist, which is the optimal spring botanical conditions for the fully-blossomed headliner, the prolific Hicksville, Long Island, NY power pop aces @TheLemonTwigs , led by gifted singer-songwriter brothers @BrianPaulDaddarrio 🎤 🎸 & @MichaelHallDaddario 🎤 🎸, whose catchy riffs, abundant hooks, & sweet, melting Beach Boys-style harmonies with longtime bassist @DrDannyMusic 🎤 & newer member @DaisyGlaze7 🥁 🎤 (also of @Uni.Boyss ) delighted the large crowd with many swell tracks from just-released @CapturedTracks LP Look For Your Mind!, and this splendid version of "Ghost Run Free" (which, like many Lemon Twigs songs, evokes tunes you think you have heard before, but can't place because of their deft melodic reframing; in this case, there's a spirit of The La's classic "There She Goes" hovering), from 2023 LP Everything Harmony.

L’envie #235 :: Danny Ayala is a songwriter and musician from New York, and also a touring member of The Lemon Twigs. “When I was making Only Fools Love Again, I kept coming back to a lot of songs like the ones in this playlist—stuff like “Dream of Me,” “Leave My Heart Alone,” “Get the Message,” “Desiree,” and “September Gurls.”
“I guess there’s a light power pop influence in there, mostly in the melodies and the way those songs are so direct and catchy without feeling forced. But that’s really just one small part of it. I wasn’t trying to make a straight power pop record or anything, these are just some of the songs that I’ve loved for a long time and that were floating around in my head while I was writing. Only Fools Love Again comes more from that general love of great songs than from trying to fit into any one style.”

Just wrapped a completely unhinged little run up the west coast… with some very questionable routing decisions in between. This trip reminded me how much touring runs on friendship!
Portland! @turnturnturnpdx you in particular really showed us love and for that we thank you!

Danny Ayala joins the show! We caught up with him just hours before kicking off his West Coast tour in support of his album Only Fools Love Again.
In this episode, we talk about how his songwriting process has evolved over the years, revisit his first project Dr. Danny, and hear what he thinks his next record might sound like. We also get into what it’s like hearing brand-new songs from The Lemon Twigs for the first time as a member of their touring band — and what it was like performing on late-night TV with appearances on Fallon, Colbert, and Conan.
Then we switch gears and dive into Danny’s love of 2000s emo — especially My Chemical Romance — where he fronts a tribute band.
