The coolest opportunity I've ever had bar none! It was incredible to see @dragged_up play and to join them for their last two tunes. I love this band and the folks in it too!! 🐆🩆 Thanks to @fuzzbatgigs for putting on an incredible festival and bringing us all together. Most of us from over the last three days would not have been on stage or even know each other if it wasn't for the support of Stuart Fraser @stufras 🙏👑

“Blissful and lush psyche rock throbbed through the room, but with a simmering dark undertone. There was a feeling in the room there was more to the band, they grew out of these psyche inflected musical plains into darker contortions, larger walls of noise and all the way back again... When the gears shifted from the uptempo and driven beats and the big riffs were unleashed, the ugly head Dragged Up had been hiding would rear it’s head
.The set was expert.” Many thanks to @caine_hemmingway for this really great review of Fuzz Fest Day 3, last Saturday, including our set at Leith Cricket Club. Read the whole thing at cainehemmingway.substack.com

GIG ANNOUNCMENT 5th JUNE Doors 7.30, performance 8pm £8 in advance on Skiddle (link in bio) £10 on the door Thanks @spiv.work for this mint poster! We are super excited to have @dragged_up joining us with support from @machinemusicroz and @o_r_c_h_a_r_d_band Dragged Up formed in Glasgow, in late 2018. They deftly assimilate garage-psych, art-punk, experimental rock, and post-doom, with soundscape and spoken word elements. ‘Dragged Up’s style is eclectic and intense, distilling much of the history of alternative music into a single band, and doing so in a highly inventive manner.’ Kim Harten Lam, Bliss Aquamarine ‘Their arty slack-punk attack has roots in the anorak era, but displays a much scummier surface than any of those poppers ever managed. Loose loud psych guitar gets woven into vocals with a certain paisley heft, but it’s all presented without cliches. Very, very cool’ - Byron Coley, The Wire They have received airplay on Stuart Maconie’s Freak Zone, Louder Than War radio, Radio Free Brooklyn, KEXP and WFMU and supported bands such as Acid Mothers Temple, Smote, The Vaselines, The Bevis Frond and Water Damage, as well as The Hard Quartet who they toured with for 10 dates in June 2025. A new single is due for release in the summer, with a new album coming out later in the year.

Be nice - get them in advance like a city gig. Amateur(ish) poster by us, featuring a proper photograph by @chrishoggephotography

Pop Mutations & Freakender present: Retail Simps + Dragged Up Wednesday 28th October The Old Hairdresser's 18+ What if the Velvet Underground had written ‘Wooly Bully’ and Sam The Sham ‘Sister Ray?' If Ron House picked up some bongos and joined CCR or If Half Japanese and Hasil Adkins started a Meters cover band? This is the scrap yard of the Retail Simp's mind. Short on practice and high on ideas, thee Retail Simple Tones are 4 well traveled and unraveled individuals, bound by a musical adventure. This is the southern soul of Memphian tradesmen flipped on it’s snowy head, the sound of impure regionalism. An alternate kind of Northern Soul with a frosty Arctic sheen. More spazzed out guitar, more howling lunacy, more heat of the moment, turnt poetry and outside the box-isms. 3 LPs, 2 7"s, 1 2xLP, many tapes and shows in, the band remains unpredictable and ill content with stasis and the status quo. As the returns for REAL rock n roll diminish exponentially, so do the Retail Simps expectations, however, like the pious Eunuchs of Sumeria, their mission and core spirit remains strongly in tact: Get it or don't, they're on a mission.

This summer we’re in Newcastle playing Marrapalooza 4: Wild and Fierce and Not Bothered tickets and details at Started four years ago by two local DIY promoters @p4foxes and @flatfourrecordsuk MARRAPALOOZA is the North East’s long running multi-venue festival of eclectic grassroots music featuring underground punk, hardcore, indie rock, world music, traditional folk and plenty else from the North East, UK and abroad. “They say it’s a pet. It int a pet, sir. People come up to me and say “int it tame?” It int tame, sir. They can’t be tamed. They’re manned. They’re wild and fierce and not bothered about anybody. Not bothered about me. That’s what makes it great.” Billy Casper, Kes “a near-perfect weekend. That might sound a bit corny, but it’s true.” Narc Magazine “A truly special event” NE Volume ”Marrapalooza and events like these are incredibly important, with a packed bill of DIY bands powering a DIY festival, which is run for a love of music, rather than a love of profit.” Humbug North East
