Step inside the studio of @dragaandaurel in Como, Italy, where experimental materials are transformed into a striking synthesis of postmodernism, neo-futurism and 20th-century design. Draga Obradovic and Aurel K Basedow’s space unfolds as a vast, abstract environment: artworks hang on the walls, neon lights hum above retro-futuristic furniture, and colourful resin surrounds you, stacked in disks or meticulously moulded and carved into signature creations. Since founding their studio in 2007, the duo have built a practice that resists easy categorisation, sitting at the intersection of radical Italian postmodernism, the 21st-century collectible design movement and neo-futurism, with nods to the aesthetics of the 1970s and 1980s. Resin, their medium of choice, is endlessly experimented with, yielding forms that feel organic, layered and almost geological. Rejecting rigid methods or predetermined outcomes, each object becomes a record of exploration, shaped by an ethos that first emerged through upcycling and continues to define their work. Bold, playful and sophisticated, these pieces carry a sense of alchemy, both in their process and in their result.
