Brain Food.
Hopping is one of the most underutilized tools in rehab and performance.
It's not just about load. It's about how you accept and return force, how your foot and ankle behave under demand, and whether your entire chain stays honest when there's nothing to compensate with.
Different hops expose you to different intensities. Different strategies expose you to different demands and with consistent use...different adaptations.

Buncha baby deer out there...
Too stiff = robotic.
Too loose = no control.
And neither transfers.
Find your rhythm first. Learn to Relax and then Strike.
Arms and legs need to sync NOT fight each other.
Arms finish as you leave the ground.
Start small(er) and build the pattern.
Then scale.
Fluid. Controlled. Repeat.

Set your athlete up for success.
ACL rehab is hard, but it shouldn’t be a disaster.
Too many athletes say “I just want to run again”… and they’re massively underprepared.
Most of that problem starts around month 2.
Low-level plyos aren’t enough. They never were.
Early exposure to deceleration matters.
Build the capacity to handle and redirect force, not just produce it. Can't use speed if you don't have brakes.

We talk a lot about max effort testing and single rep outputs, but submax work with thresholds is where actual development happens.
Setting a threshold (such as GCT, repeat vert, # of reps, or time of bout) teaches intent, builds reactivity, and gives you objective data when the quality of effort starts to decline. No guessing, no over-cueing, just feedback in real time.
Whether you're in-season or off, this is a tool worth adding to your program, especially if there are specific qualities you're looking to achieve with your athletes.

Missing Pieces, Especially in Rehab. 🧩
Building capacity is NOT basic strength work.
While it's useful, don't forget the rest of the pieces.
- Box squat, Bulgarian SS
Exercises like these can be a part of it...BUT...
Capacity is gained collectively through
strength training, sprinting, jumping/plyos, explosive lifting,
throwing, change of direction, and reactivity
Capacity is specific to: Velocity, Force, Position, Coordination
Build in tolerance with progressive loading and we're cookin

Want to be better in a specific skill? Go take a course.
Want to be better in helping a certain kind of client? Go learn from people who are doing it at the highest level.
Investing in your skills and development is the best thing you can do for yourself. In turn, it will be the best thing you do for the people you serve.
Thank you @plusplyos@mcinneswatson & @dr.derekpt for an amazing course on plyometrics.
This course is developed for practitioners at any level… physical therapists, trainers, and coaches. Any student wanting to level up their coaching and training. Bridging the gap between rehab and performance is where we get to collaborate and help our clients reach their potential.
Feeling so inspired after this weekend. Let’s cook fam 🔥
Is it tendon stiffness?
Yes, plus several other qualities..
Which ultimately expresses SYSTEM stiffness.
During sprints and plyometrics, what we observe reflects a combination of ankle joint stiffness, tendon properties, muscle characteristics, ROM, coordination, neural input, and force expression all interacting on a spectrum.
In performance, these don't happen in isolation.
Classify movement patterns or select exercises to emphasize the specific qualities needed for the task, instead of chasing novelty or buzzwords.
When a quality is lacking, training can be biased toward improving it, but you still have to coach the athlete to use their whole system.

Comfort Zone is for Squares
Stick Landings...especially in Rehab.
People live here. In comfort.
Low level and ultra Controlled.
Nothing wrong with it.
But we're not gonna pretend it's enough.
Spend too much time being slow → you miss out on building reactivity.
Gotta drive intent! Be snappy. Hit hard and get out.

Stop throwing 💩 at a 🧱
Pick a task and build it.
A perfect example: Pullups - Lat pull, banded, full, weighted.
Quit avoiding the skill. The way is through.
Fwd Hops: find rhythm and make repeatable clean contacts
On the spot: build intensity, control it, find where your limit is
Fwd hops w leg cycle: same pattern, 📈 demand, put it in motion
Not saying variety can't be useful or that modifications aren't helpful in rehab. Simply, keep the main thing the main thing.
