@stevenbankssaxophone is putting the classical saxophone front and center on his beautiful debut album “Cries, Sighs, and Dreams.”🎷 Banks was the first saxophonist to earn an Avery Fisher Career Grant and is joined by fellow AFCG honorees @doverquartet on the album's title track, which was written by Banks and inspired by composer Hector Berlioz’s reaction to hearing the saxophone for the first time. An impressed Berlioz wrote: “It cries, sighs, and dreams. It possesses a crescendo and can gradually diminish its sound until it is only an echo of an echo of an echo…” Listen to the album now: lnk.to/EyqTGv (link in bio) #AveryFisherArtists

While watching a composer perform and record his own work, I witnessed interpretation giving way to origin. Steven Banks isn’t just playing the music—he’s releasing it! Cries, Sighs and Dreams - coming soon : May 8,2026. #doverquartet

🥨Can't have Johann Sebastian Bach's birthday (born this day, March 21, 1685, according to the Julian calendar) without the one and only @bryanlee_violin 's signature g minor sonata! *NB: This video is intended in a lighthearted spirit, with some exaggeration and an intentional alteration of the notes. • • • #hbd #bach #soloviolin #hesback #humor

😮😠😏“What, a blizzard? Yikes! Okay, we can still slay." Our final week of the February tour wrapped up with a wonderful residency at Carnegie Mellon @cmumusic – working with students and performing the Dvořák Piano Quintet with Dimitri Papadimitriou! Then Richmond, VA– and a drive home straight into the winter storm. Some made it back to Philly, some rerouted through DC… and some of us stayed a little longer than planned. Ah, winter touring... always an adventure! • • • #pianoquintet #residency #wintertour #unpredictable #allgood

The @doverquartet brings @jerodtate ’s “Abokkoli’ Taloowa’” (“Woodland Songs”) to life! Co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall, the piece draws from Tate’s Chickasaw heritage, translating traditional Native vocal music into a modern string quartet inspired by woodland animals from his Southeastern homelands. It weaves together Chickasaw melodies, rhythms, and musical structures throughout—sometimes emerging with clarity, sometimes absorbed into the quartet’s texture. Don’t miss the work’s New York premiere tonight as part of our “United in Sound: America at 250” festival. Limited tickets remain 👉 carnegiehall.org
