Happy Birthday to our founder, Amoako Boafo! Today we celebrate the visionary artist whose dream of creating space for artists to thrive became dot.ateliers. Amoako's commitment to supporting creative talent from the continent and diaspora continues to shape everything we do here. And what a moment to celebrate: congratulations on the opening of "It doesn’t have to always make sense” at @palazzogrimani with Gagosian in Venice! Watching your practice reach new heights while you build platforms for others is inspiring beyond measure. Here's to another year of creation, community, and impact. It doesn’t have to always make sense #amoakoboafo @amoakoboafo photo by @g.sarkodee

Mental health. Migration. Resilience. Matthew's practice tackles what's often left unsaid in African contexts—and his residency has been deepening this inquiry right here in Accra. Join us as Matthew shares his research journey: the conversations he's had, the cultural metaphors he's uncovering, and how this work continues to evolve. What happens when art becomes a platform for healing and transformation? Guiding this conversation is visiting moderator Essé Dabla, curator and founder of This No Be Art, and a bridge-builder across contemporary African art ecosystems. With deep expertise connecting artists and audiences across Accra, Paris, Lagos, and beyond, Essé brings the perfect lens to explore Matthew's practice. Our next dot.mat conversation features Emma Prempeh, who's been deep in experimentation with Accra's landscapes. What does it mean to see a city anew? How does place shape practice? What's unfolding in the studio? We're creating space for these questions—and whatever else emerges in conversation. Welcome to our third resident of 2026—Matthew Eguavoen! Matthew's practice sits at a powerful intersection: mental health, depression, and migration in African contexts. The Lagos-based artist has been on quite a journey—from a 2024 solo exhibition in Paris connecting with African immigrants, to a Dakar residency uncovering how young Senegalese navigate mental health challenges and discovering laamb (traditional wrestling) as both cultural anchor and metaphor for resilience. Now he brings this inquiry to Accra. What will he discover here? How will local communities shape his research? What new visual languages will emerge? Matthew's socially engaged practice creates space for conversations often silenced—and we're excited to see how Ghana's context transforms and deepens this work. The journey continues. #dotateliers2026 #matthewEguavoen @mattheweguavoen_art

A throwback to this beautiful conversation a special edition of our dot.mat conversation series. Artist and academic Nour Shantout joined us for a special dot.mat session, sharing honestly about her journey—the obstacles, the lessons, the moments that shaped her. Her openness created space for deep reflection. An honour we still carry with us. #dotmatconversations #dotateliers|ogbojo2025 #nourshantout @nourshantout @panafricangodfather

Today, we celebrate 69 years of freedom, resilience, and the journey toward the future our forebears envisioned. From the Freedom and Justice Arch standing tall in Accra to the opening notes of our national anthem—these symbols highlight the importance of the creative community in shaping national identity. In moments of uncertainty, we recognize that independence is not a destination but an ongoing practice—one that asks us to reimagine, rebuild, and hold space for what comes next. At dot.ateliers, we're honored to be part of a creative community that continues to shape what independence and freedom mean—through art, dialogue, and the spaces we hold together. Happy Independence Day, Ghana! 🇬🇭 #dotateliers2026 #IndependenceDay #Ghana@69

Today’s throwback doesn’t go too far back... earlier this week, we welcomed Emma Prempeh to Dot Ateliers for our 2026 residency program. Emma is a London-based British artist with Ghanaian and Vincentian heritage. Her practice explores time, memory, and lineage through painting, using layered surfaces and schlag metal—a brass alloy that oxidizes over time—capturing impermanence and transformation. Through her work, Emma has deepened her connection to Ghana, visiting for the first time in 2021 and returning in 2022 and 2024. This residency allows her to move beyond the personal into collective inquiry, exploring how unfulfilled legacies, familial obligations, and diasporic longing shape our sense of self. We are excited to offer the space for these explorations and can not wait to see what is birthed. #TBT #dotateliers2026 #EmmaPrempeh @reclus__e

Textile waste, memory, process, and the materiality of charcoal — just a few of the ideas our resident Daniel Quarchie will be exploring at his dot.mat Conversation Series. This is the first of our series for 2026, and it takes place on Thursday, 26th February at 5:30pm. We'd love nothing more than to kick things off with the full support of our community. Your presence sets the tone for the rest of the year. Date: 26.02.2026 Start time: 5:30 pm Location: dot.ateliers | South La #dotateliers2026 #dotmatconversations #DanielQuarshie @quarshie_studio

We started the year off with a visit form @risd1877 student, to our writers and curators residency. The dialogue was engaging and their visit brought the space to life. #dotateliers2026 #RISD #ditatelierstour

A warm welcome to our first resident of 2026, @quarshie_studio . His multidisciplinary practice spans drawing, installation, sculpture, and sound—redefining the expressive potential of charcoal in dialogue with other media. Rooted in collective memory and socio-political critique, Quarshie’s work engages themes of capitalism and environmental degradation. We’re excited to see how his practice evolves as he explores a familiar city from a new perspective. #dotateliers2026 #danielquarshie #artistinresidency @quarshie_studio
