Had the pleasure of curating “The Softer Side of Us” the first Parisian solo exhibition of Ghanaian artist Richard Mensah @officialrichardmensah at Afikaris Gallery @afikaris_
It was captured by @france24_en@encoref24
This is in keeping with the work I have been doing these past years:
- highlighting the work of Ghanaian artists
- create more accurate narrative about West African art
- question representations of Blackness
- Build bridges between France and West Africa

Venice 2026 is the most-talked-about edition in years. And for the first time in the Biennale’s 130-year history, the main show was conceived by an African woman, the late Koyo Kouoh.
12 African pavilions. 111 artists in “In Minor Keys”.
A curatorial argument made in a quieter register, at a moment when everything else is loud.
Having worked on the Benin Pavilion in 2024, I know how much labour, budget and relational work sits behind every name on those walls. This isn’t a “moment.” It’s a shift that’s been decades in the making.
Swipe through for what’s happening, why it matters.

Most people think art consulting is simply “choosing nice artworks.”
In reality, it involves research, strategy, storytelling, curation, relationship-building, and understanding how art functions within culture, business, and space.
Whether for collectors, brands, exhibitions, or interiors, art consultants help translate vision into visual experience.

What makes an artwork valuable in Ghana?
It’s more than the price tag.
Value is shaped by a mix of tangible and intangible factors:
In Ghana’s art ecosystem, value also lives in context: heritage, community, and the narratives we choose to preserve.
Swipe through to understand what you’re really investing in when you decide on collecting art in Ghana and beyond.
In helping to make collecting easier for you, we shall be releasing a guide for collecting African art soon.
Has this been informative?
Mental health. Migration. Resilience. Matthew's practice tackles what's often left unsaid in African contexts—and his residency has been deepening this inquiry right here in Accra.
Join us as Matthew shares his research journey: the conversations he's had, the cultural metaphors he's uncovering, and how this work continues to evolve. What happens when art becomes a platform for healing and transformation?
Guiding this conversation is visiting moderator Essé Dabla, curator and founder of This No Be Art, and a bridge-builder across contemporary African art ecosystems. With deep expertise connecting artists and audiences across Accra, Paris, Lagos, and beyond, Essé brings the perfect lens to explore Matthew's practice. Date: 07.05.2026

Shoutout to @_rae_tee for steering the night as MC 🎤👏🏾
But beyond the lights and applause…
This wasn’t just an art talk.
It was about responsibility. Stewardship. Legacy.
How we preserve culture, protect it, and push it forward — where art meets commerce.
Still smiling about this one. That’s how to end an exhibition 😈
