‘Winner’ I’m honoured to share that I won the Leica Women Foto Project Award! I had a list of ‘little’ dreams in 2021, and this was part of that. My journey has been a testament to persistence (I applied three times 🥹). Winning this award validates my growth as an artist and storyteller. I’m grateful for this opportunity to amplify the stories of black mothers through my Omo mi series. Thank you to @leicacamerausa @leica_camera @leicauk and the judges for believing in my vision and granting me this opportunity. I needed a sign to keep pushing forward, and this was it. Thank you to everyone who supported my journey and made it possible for me to live my dream. Above all, thank you, God, for the gift of my precious child. I’m overwhelmed with joy. Congratulations to the other brilliant awardees @stasia.schmidt @camille.lenain @luvialazo ❤️ Happy International Women’s Day! Happy Mother’s Day 🎉🤍 “A photograph of Iya Jibola with her children collecting fish on the Lagos Lagoon ❤️” Today I’m thinking about mothers everywhere - who nurture with love and hold their children and communities together. Being away from home I have felt the love of many mothers who have held my hand, guided me, prayed for me, and loved me like their own. I’m grateful for my mother, my sister, my aunties, my daughter’s godmother, the women I photograph, and the women who have surrounded me with care when I needed it most. Motherhood is a blessing. Happy Mother’s Day 🤍 #dolaposh #mothersday #motherhood

“Feti, smoking fish at home by the Lagos Lagoon”
These mothers are the backbone of their communities. While I was home in Nigeria, in the area I grew up, I spent time with women living on the lagoon; watching the rhythm of work, care, and preparation that begins each morning. When I asked to take her photograph, Feti said she would love to be photographed as she is, wearing her favourite necklace. That made me smile. 🤍 but Last week, I saw news of homes destroyed in Makoko, a neighbouring lagoon community and It brought back everything I witnessed while spending time with women like Feti. In our rush to modernise, we erase fragments of who we are - our identity. A city is not only its buildings; it is its people, its water, and its memory. I hope the government will remember that. Series supported by @leicausa Shot with @Leica_camera SL3 @leicauk @leicausa Edited @adobe @photoshop @lightroom Assistant Moses and Ini bts Ini Shot in Lagos, Nigeria. #dolaposh #home #Nigeria #motherhood #makoko

Care II - During Covid-19, after my daughter was born, my mother would stay on the phone while I bathed her, oiled her hair, and rocked her to sleep. Some days, she stayed until I slept too. When I made the image Care (on 2nd slide) I dreamt of the day we would include my mother as the work always felt like it needed one more presence. It needed my Her. Care II is dedicated to her and for the first time, I am truly smiling in the frame. So much joy to finally make this. 🤍 Series supported by @leicacamerausa @maryirenem Shot with @leica_camera SL3 @leicauk Edited on @adobe @photoshop @lightroom Shot in Lagos, Nigeria. #dolaposh #home #Nigeria #motherhood threegenerations

‘The origin’ When we started making self-portraits, it felt easy for my mind because I had no idea what I was doing, I just let the creative spirit guide me. Now, with growth, I often feel afraid of doing something “wrong.” But being an artist means letting go of that fear. It means trusting my heart and following the light, no matter how simple or complicated the photo story feels. So here we are; breakfast with my daughter, just us, making our own kind of story and that’s enough. ❤️ 📷 Leica SL3 @leicacamerausa @leicauk Wearing of her own kind @ofherownkind Daisy-Grace wearing @louisemisha #dolaposh #leica #stories #Motherhood #SelfPortraits #SimpleJoys #family #love #Unitedkingdom #care #art #motherhood #momlife #black #african #art #mom #portrait #dreams #photography #portraiture #fashion #london #womenswear #style #child #series #cameramama #home #leicastories
