In 2024, nearly 1,000 people were newly diagnosed with HIV in the capital, a significant proportion of whom were Black women.
To create awareness and encourage testing, the Do It London Glam Squad popped up across London in April 2026 - bringing beauty, wellbeing, and relaxed health conversations together in spaces primarily for women of African heritage
VoxAfrica was at one of the pop-ups in Morley’s Department store in Brixton, where attendees enjoyed free nail care, makeup, and styling consultations.

Skin Like Mine is where community, culture, and sexual health combine 🔥
Thursday 30th April 3pm-6pm come in and get a check up. HIV and sexual health testing downstairs free, private and confidential at Halfway to Heaven 🧡 Knowing your self is sexy @gmi.partnership@doitldn
We chatted with Julian at the Healthy Hearts event in Deptford, curious to hear his thoughts on HIV testing!
“It’s nice to have such events in the community” — we understand just how busy people’s lives are, between school and work, to caring responsibilities and commitments, it can be challenging to find the time to go to the GP or clinic, which is why we’re testing to you!
Everyone should have access to sexual health testing, treatment, and information, and Skin Like Mine is the programme doing just that!
Test with us at one of our pop up events or order a free kit to your address from skin.shl.uk 🙌🏽
"O dara Lati se ayewo loofee bayi."
Meet Omoh, he's a volunteer with @redribbonlivingwell and has been living well with HIV for the past 25 years.
Omoh shared with Skin Like Mine a bit of his story, and is showing everyone what living with HIV really looks like today. His message to you? Don't delay; testing is free for anyone living in the UK. You can get tested at your GP or online at skin.shl.uk.
Sharing this in Yoruba helps make sure more people can access clear, relevant information about #HIV.
"Mo rowa ki gbogbo wa, lomode ati agbalagba lo se ayewo ara wa bayi."
Too many people in Black communities are still diagnosed late. Not because we don’t care, but because stigma and lack of clear information get in the way.
We have to take charge of our health, and testing for HIV is part of that. Testing is quick, confidential, and it puts you in control.
Thank you Omoh for sharing with us all and to @doitldn for funding this work!

Get Your Glam On: Pop‑ups blend beauty & wellbeing for Black women across London
A curated Glam Squad of trusted Black British beauty stylists will be popping up across London this April, offering free beauty appointments and wellness and relaxed sexual health conversations directly to local Black women.
The Glam Squad - a stylist, a makeup artist and a nail specialist - will offer complimentary makeup, nail art and personal styling consultations in welcoming community spaces designed to celebrate Black women, uplift confidence and make self‑care and health awareness as natural as booking a beauty appointment or touching up your lipstick.
Alongside the glow‑ups and glossy nail polishes, community nurses will be available to offer quick, friendly and simple on‑the‑spot health checks - from blood pressure and cholesterol to diabetes screening. One Voice Network, a collective of Black-led community organisations, will be on hand to provide sexual health support, including HIV testing, in a discreet and judgement‑free way.
Delivered by Do It London (@doitldn ), the capital’s city-wide HIV prevention programme, the events have been created as a response to data which shows that despite progress in HIV prevention, Black Londoners remain disproportionately affected by the virus. In 2024, nearly 1,000 people were newly diagnosed with HIV in the capital, a significant proportion of whom were Black women.
The remaining Glam Squad pop‑ups are set to take place in South London, between the hours of 11am and 4pm
Morley’s Department Store, Brixton – Sat 25 April
Peckham Palms – Sun 26 April
