This is what a true artist sounds like.
The title of Guillotine Hype came directly from this @DoseoneGrams verse. Just dropped it in there, like it was always supposed to be there. That’s all it took. Track renamed. Period.
@MrFuckingDibbs has said it to me on more than one occasion and I’m paraphrasing here: “Dose is the most artistic person with a vision I’ve ever met and/or worked with.” As @ArtByTai , I co-sign that fully.
This song is sonically challenging. It is not a lullaby. It was never meant to be. Someone recently commented on the YouTube lyric video that they wished it was more “listenable” and that it could’ve been “more palatable and anthemic” to reach more people. They said most people won’t have the attention span and that “backpackers will geek out over it” like that was a bad thing.
We get that. And we wear it.
Underground hip-hop has never been for "most people." That’s never been the point. There’s no shortage of lullabies out there doing exactly what they described. Comments like that are pretty typical when challenging hip-hop lands in the wrong ears, and as an artist whose work is regularly misunderstood, that’s a badge of honor. Always has been. True artists push on regardless.
Go have a listen for yourself if you haven’t yet. And don’t feel ashamed if you don’t understand it at first. That’s normal. Keep listening. Over and over and over. Trust, when you crack it, you’ll be shouting from the rooftop like we have been since its release. It’s available everywhere now.
@DoseoneGrams is a true artist. His verse proves it. The entire Guillotine Hype roster is loaded with true artists. That’s not an accident. This kind of song has a way of revealing who’s really 'bout it and shoutout to @Slugghead_TheBand for having the vision and pushing the boundaries that made space for all of it.
