“Reflection II”, 14” x 11”, oil on panel
by Elliot Purse”
In “Reflection II”, Elliot Purse confronts the viewer with an arresting meditation on permanence, fragmentation, and the inherited language of masculinity. Presented as part of Object Permanence at Novado Gallery, curated by Nicole Basilone and Daniel Morowitz. This work exists within a liminal dialogue between classical idealism and contemporary psychological inquiry.
The sculptural visage, evoking the silent authority of Greco-Roman antiquity, is stripped of certainty through absence: the vacant eyes become sites of projection rather than vision. Purse masterfully destabilises the historical symbolism of heroic form, revealing instead a fragile archaeology of identity.
What appears immutable is, upon closer contemplation, deeply vulnerable.
Through his refined painterly technique and acute cultural awareness, Purse interrogates the persistence of masculine archetypes within collective memory. “Reflection II” does not merely depict a relic of the past, but questions whether these monuments endure because they are eternal, or because we continuously reconstruct them within ourselves.

“Object Permanence”
curated by Nicole Basilone and Daniel Morowitz
Opening reception:
May 9, 2026
6-8pm
“Object Permanence” borrows its title from the foundational cognitive principle: The understanding of objects continue to exist even when unseen, and recontextualises it within contemporary artistic practice.
The exhibition brings together works that interrogate presence, absence, and the latent persistence of form, memory, and meaning beyond immediate perception.
Through a nuanced curatorial lens, Nicole Basilone and Daniel Morowitz assemble a dialogue where materiality and illusion coexist, challenging us to reconsider what remains when visibility dissolves.
Looking forward to welcoming you for this amazing exhibition.

“Object Permanence”
Opens next Saturday May 9th 6pm-8pm @novadogallery . Daniel Morowitz @dm61889 and my first curatorial project with Novado gallery. “Where are we left when our senses fail us? Does something become real based on how it looks? How does it feel? What does it smell like? Or how are you able to remember it? Are any of these things actually important in an age of self consuming simulacra; where can an object begin if it may never end? Object Permanence as a phenomenon is described as “the understanding that whether an object can be sensed has no effect on whether it continues to exist.” Gathering 14 artists with a diverse group visual strategies, Object Permanence is not attempting to find an answer to these impossible questions, but rather commonality employed in diverse visual strategies that carry this thread within the contemporary moment. “

Art meets fashion in a moment of celebration!
To mark the 10th anniversary of RARE Fashion Magazine @officialrarefashionmag and Novado Gallery!
we had the pleasure of collaborating with our dear friend @jadeemurphy4u CEO of RARE Fashion Magazine and one of New York City’s most iconic fashion photographers. Together with Rare Fashion Magazine, we transformed the gallery space into a stage where fashion, photography, and contemporary artcould speak the same language.
During this special photo session, top model Shaheed Shaheed posed in dialogue with the powerful painting “Vortex” by Daniel Morowitz @dm61889 , creating a striking encounter between movement, style, and visual expression.
The result is more than a photoshoot, it is a celebration of creative collaboration and the shared vision between artists across disciplines.
Thank you to Rare Fashion Magazine, to Ja’Dee for his friendship and vision, Shaheed Shaheed, artist Daniel Morowitz for this amazing experience! A big thank you to everyone who continues to support the artistic journey of Novado Gallery.!
Here’s to the next decade of art, creativity, and meaningful collaborations.
