👀Here’s the story:
I moved to New Orleans as an artist and DJ, and for the past three years, my Retrospec Mantra bike has been my lifeline. It’s helped me save on gas, stay environmentally conscious, and get to gigs and deliveries that support my livelihood. Living alone in a new state without family, I’ve come to rely on my community for support, especially since I’m on disability and my work at entertainment venues is sporadic. Most months, I only make enough to cover my rent and a bill, so every bit of help counts.
On Friday, April 24th, I was DJing at Favela Chic when I experienced a medical emergency. I had to leave my bike locked outside the venue, and when I returned the next day, it was gone. That bike wasn’t just transportation—it was how I made deliveries and sold vinyl to supplement my income. Losing it has set me back in a big way, and I’m facing a difficult season ahead as I try to recover.
The funds from this fundraiser will help me replace my bike, pay some essential bills, and buy food while I get back on my feet. While I’m upset to lose something so important, I also think about the need of the person who took it. I’m grateful I had something that could serve another, just as it served me.
