This has been our 2 Dudes Motto since he was a little guy. Now he’s almost as big as his dad and is THE MOST amazing son ever! Some people say, “Embrace Autism” but it’s really simpler than that. The person my son is comes before his autism. Embrace the person first. Everything else falls into place after that (for me). ❤️ Love you Kier! @mrsrhythm.naturally

Sad today. So, I dug into a box of past adventures. Each ties to a specific time, person, or place in my life. Like a slideshow only for me, coming FROM the music. Musical memories are actual magic. I don’t have a lot of pictures of the late DJ Dan, but I do have these relics of the roots to the great tree of music he planted inside of me. I’ve been thinking a lot about the way he wanted to change the world through music. It always made me happy and optimistic to be a warrior for house music too. I think that’s the way I’ll carry tribute tomorrow Dan in my own way; To also do more to try to honor our music and to help others find a way to honor it too.
Changing the world (or wanting to change it and feeling like we can) will happen automatically for many, like it did for me! It turns out Groove really was in my heart too. Once my heart was open my mind followed, eventually, and now I wish I could be the time traveler to advise my younger self of the challenges coming from my narrow vision and insecure ways. Sigh. Growth becomes a mirror if you are willing to look into it. Glad to be here.
Thanks for showing me that Dan. For me, “child of pop radio 1987” in Southern California, rave was my fast-track to more musical and cultural diversity than I could have imagined, and with my senses bursting I fell in love immediately. Now 34 years into that rabbit whole I am humbled by what I still don’t know about music and am on a newfound quest for art fueled, curiously by the loss of loved ones and the shift in perspective that can give a person on “time we have left (TBD).”
It all started with this magical breakbeat techno in stealthy warehouse parties where I bought a ticket to get a number to call to get directions to a donut shop location where I would pickup my map in the alley and then proceed to review one Thomas Guide (IYKYK) to find the way to the party with no cell phones, no guarantees, and a ton of hope. The mystery in how the party would be like, the crazy sound systems and the music man, THE MUSIC!
RIP Dan 💔 The beat will go on, and we will change the world 🫡
I’m so reflective of the way Dan connected us all. Especially native ravers in SoCal and SF. This tape was a gateway vehicle and right at the right time.
Bought my first turntables in December of 1992. This tape, and one by @igottoomanyrecords (DJ Vitamin D aka Derrick Daisy) from Hyde Park Corder in Irvine were basically why. These two guys showed me it was possible with hard work. Let me be explicit about what I’m saying here.
I would never have become a DJ and learned later to produce without the example set by DJ Dan. That’s so profound for me. It all connects back to him. Before Dream parties and the Wicked Crew and my love for Dubtribe and all that “later magic” there were warehouse parties and mixtapes, starting for me with this tape. Sadly my copy long gone.
I was going to be a cartoonist, was in school and everything. Then I found music that spoke to me unlike any other before and a welcoming community for misfits like I was at the time (hey! Still am 😉). Thank you for showing us the way. For showing ME the way. some of my DJ Dan first were seeing him speed up hip hop acapella and play them over other music 🤯, and he busted out a top hat and played a record backwards with the stylus upside down and more 🤯. He was always so, well… SO DAMNED FRESH.
You fucking DID change the world with your music. You changed mine too. I wish I had told you more how much you meant before we lost you. Rest easy Dan. 💔
