Comment ‘JUNOPICKS’ to listen to our latest picks! We all know that techno was invented in Detroit in the mid to late 80s, right? Well, sort of. Because this footage - the earliest surviving film of Düsseldorf's gamechanging electronic pioneers - appears to show them laying down some rather banging four to the floor techno during an improvised set at German festival Rockpalast way back in 1970. Check the rather saucer eyed audience having their minds utterly blown too! @kraftwerkofficial

Comment ‘JUNOPICKS’ to listen to our latest picks! For the first video in this series, we’re highlighting Todd Edwards’ legendary debut UK performance at Time & Envy, Romford. This set has gone down as one of the most iconic moments in house and UK garage, not just for the crowd’s infectious energy and reactions, but also for Todd’s own response to playing to such a huge UK audience. As he later told The Guardian’s Alexis Petridis: “I didn’t know what a rewind was. I didn’t know they had MCs chanting and getting the crowd riled up. The communication between the audience and the DJ was like nothing I’d seen before. Which gave me a new admiration for what DJing was in the first place.” Were you there? @toddedwards3000 #jesuslovesukgarage #ukg #toddedwards iconicdjsets

@hyperdriverecords is back with a third outing which once again offers up some exciting and forward-thinking new artists. @wexualmatt 'Sweet Psylow' kicks off with some psychedelic synth loops over crisp tech house drums that hark back to the 90s prog heyday. HearThuG’s 'Back To The Future' is a darker sound with whistles, snappy snares and eerie chords and @luismalon_ & @sebglive then combine for the bouncing techno rhythms and acid-laced pads of 'Extasis Nebular.' Last but not least, @jamieleather_ 'Strange Commodities' is a surging cosmic techno trip with dynamic drums and perc and majestic leads. This is another fine release from this young label.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Quick Search on Juno: 1011601-01⁣⁣ Link in Bio

Comment ‘JUNOPICKS’ to listen! Some records exist purely to make life better, and High Frequency's 'Summertime' is unambiguously one of them. A disco offshoot of New York boogie-funk trio Aleem, the 1980 original has spent decades growing in value as well as reputation, so it is hard to find, often expensive, but absolutely worth the effort. The formula is deceptively simple: a funky bassline that won't quit, feel-good vocals that float over lush chords that even the most resolutely unmoved will struggle to resist. The instrumental holds its own and is every bit as uplifting without a word sung. Pure, uncomplicated joy.

M|A|R|R|S - “Pump Up The Volume” A landmark in sample culture and late 80s club music. Released in 1987, “Pump Up The Volume” fused hip-hop breaks, house rhythms, cut-up vocals and collage-style production into one of the defining crossover dance records of the decade. Still sounding huge nearly 40 years on.

Comment ‘JUNOPICKS’ to listen! Some people theorise that reptilian humanoids rule the world. Even if thats not true, there's definitely one ruling the underground electro scene, and perhaps coincidentally, he's from a continent that has the highest diversity of lizards in the world. Australian wizard Reptant has quickly shot to the top of electronic food chain with his bodacious live sets and distinct productions. His latest EP, 'Ballet Robotique', is served up by Dutch label Kalahari Oyster Cult, and is not only the Aussie's third release, but the label's 75th (not a scratch on the 869 known reptile species in Australia). Similar to his last two releases on the label, Reptant's acidic prowess and knack for a wiggy production couldn't be more apparent here. The title track sidewinds into your eardrums first as a 'robotique' voice preaches a disco sermon over glitchy flicks, stutters and a squelchy bass which coats your body in an infectious goo simply forcing you to groove. 'Future Proof' follows in a similarly sharp manner, as haunting synths swell amongst unadulterated 303 goodness before the final track ,'To Be Continued', signs off the record. A slightly more passive cut, this track completes the hypnotic, cold-blooded triptych, and leaves you with no doubt in your mind that Reptant is a snake charmer, and we are but his snakes. @_reptant @kalaharioystercult

Comment ‘JUNOPICKS’ to listen! Darwin Chamber is a veteran of the prog game, and now that sound is very much back en vogue, it's no wonder new generations are falling for the American's sounds. Back in March, he dropped this EP which was inspired by a San Fran acid trip, and it became an instant classic that meant the initial translucent yellow vinyl edition, limited to 303 copies, soon sold out. Now it reappears on black wax and obviously it still bangs. 'The Acid Test (DJ Spun mix)' is a heavy, raw jam with plenty of trippy details, warped pads and vocals that come and go so subtly you can't really be sure they're there. 'Never Coming Down' is a deep and dark workout with cold analogue hits and paranoid vocals, then '25th Century Acid Cat' is a little brighter with its synths but no less of a mind-fuck. 'Get Down' is gurgling, coruscated, sleazy and mid-tempo acid techno for the freaks. Brilliant. @darwin_chamber @dj_spun

Comment ‘JUNOPICKS’ to listen! A welcome return to vinyl for legendary New Jersey garage-house duo Blaze's second full-length excursion, 1997's superb Basic Blaze. The set saw the long-serving twosome (Josh Milan and Kevin Hedge) build on their trademark soulful house style by adding all manner of live instrumentation, as well as notable nods to jazz and Brazilian musical culture. Killer cuts come thick and fast throughout, from opener 'Another Dae' and the sun-soaked 'Cult of Soul', to the slowed-down garage-soul of 'The Garden', the hazy deep house smoothness of 'Club Trance', spoken word-sporting all-time classic 'My Beat', and epic closing cut 'Sacred Sex'. All these years on, Basic Blaze is still the pair's most consistently impressive album.

Comment ‘JUNOPICKS’ to listen! Astonishingly a quarter of a decade has now passed since Nottinghamshire outfit Schmoov popped up on DiY Discs with their stunning debut album, While You Wait - a set that garnered five-star reviews across the board when it slipped out in 2001. Here reissued in limited numbers on purple vinyl in honour of Record Store Day 2026, it remains one of the more cultured, groovy, organic and - yes - smooth deep house-rooted sets of the 2000s. Full of live instrumentation (drums, bass, guitar), evocative deep house pads, colourful synths, chunky grooves and evocative samples, it's packed to the rafters with highlights. For proof, check the languid sunrise breaks of 'Destination', the sunset-ready deep house shuffle of 'Playground', the early Crazy P-ish 'Duckshot', and the DIY Soundsystem free party-ready 'Put Your Mind 2 It'. @schmoovmusic
