Marauders Episode 1: DJ Scribe. The Recap.
A New Yorker, DJ Scribe has held down the floor at Brooklyn Museum, Lincoln Center, and Joe’s Pub. 150,000 records deep, he’s not just a DJ, he’s a de facto archivist. The kind who knows the difference between a record that belongs in a collection and one that belongs in a room.
His crates run deep: soul, funk, jazz, hip-hop, gospel, disco, Latin, afrobeat, not as genres, but as conversations. Each record is chosen not for how rare it is, but for what it does to a room.
He came to Cameo and pulled a few of his most cherished. Here’s what made the cut.
Gato Barbieri - Yesterdays
Ramsey Lewis - Maiden Voyage
Herbie Hancock - Sunlight
Marauders gives selectors the floor they deserve so the room gets to be privy to an intimate story.
If you weren’t there, we are back this Saturday when Bo’mbaja takes over Bar Cameo.
Ben Goldfarb (aka DJ Scribe) is a native New Yorker, born and raised on the island of Manhattan. He’s been DJing since the 90s, crate-digging to curate vinyl-led deep-listening sets featuring bangers across soul, funk, and motown.
Experience his magic first hand this Saturday, Behind the Bar at Idoru.

We open with a special Vinyl set by DJ Scribe
🗓️ 10th February | 8.30 pm
📍 Forplay Society
DJ Scribe will play an all-vinyl set that culminates in a dance party. The set will feature selections culled from his 15,000+ records gathered over 35 years of collecting which may include jazz, soul, funk, gospel, hip-hop, disco, afrobeat, salsa and house. His practice is rooted in the two foundational lineages of New York City DJ culture: hip-hop and underground dance, which both emerge from the African American community, and in the case of underground dance, the Queer African American community. Scribe’s approach centers community, healing, alchemy, transcendence, and joy, activated through music, sound, and dancing.

Last Club Friday at Middle Room, DJ Scribe took us on a journey through decades of sound.
Between grooves and stories, we danced, learned a bit about vinyl, and let the music do the talking.
A true New York native and lifelong digger, Scribe’s set flowed through hip-hop, soul, funk, jazz, and disco, reading the room perfectly and letting every record breathe.
It began with one record in New York which turned into a lifetime of chasing sound.
DJ Scribe arrives with 35 years of digging, stories in every sleeve, and grooves that travel across decades.
His sets are genre-fluid but rooted in hip-hop, soul, funk, jazz, and disco. Its music that feels historical and alive at the same time.
