SHAMROCKS & SHENANIGANS ☘️ It’s St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday and although I’m not Irish, I love celebrating with @djrubyjane (who is of Irish descent). She offered the shamrock plant to go with today’s fit and also found the House of Pain song I’m using for music in this post. Unfortunately we don’t have the record for it. Every year we go for a Guinness and some whiskey at our favourite Irish bar in town, the Honey Martin Pub in NDG. Last year we were gifted Jameson bandanas! To quote a post I saw by @jessecreatchman “There’s something in the air at Honey’s. What is it? The stories on the walls? The music dripping from the speakers? The girl pouring your drink? The man on stage? That couple dancing close? That look you keep getting? Maybe it’s the bottles, the wood, the old-world charm. The dim lights and the foggy atmosphere - or maybe that’s just your memory, a little blurred from the night before. I think it’s the shape of the room. Long and narrow. Honey’s can come alive on any given night. It’s a pressure cooker - when it’s full, it’s tight, like a jar lid in winter. (Pickled eggs, if you were wondering.) Its essence can’t be photographed. The room won’t allow it. You have to be there. You need to live it. It’s a train car to Belfast. It’s the Wild West. Where God’s tears rain down into the pints of the faithful. Where prancing wolves howl in a garden of roses and lilies.
