ROOTS IN THE HOUSE
Yesterday we came together for our annual Roots in the House celebration- honouring Blackpool’s African and Caribbean communities as part of Black History Month 🌍💛
The day was filled with art, music, food and connection- from the stunning violin performance by
@melika_queely , the incredible Afro dance performance and workshop from
@ini_iconic , music and vibes from
@dj_devolicious , the moving short film pilot ‘Black in Blackpool’ by
@3soulmedia to live illustration art by
@timmypanter01 of Winifred Atwell (photographed in Blackpool 1958).
We also loved showcasing the
@panterbros art exhibition, art work by
@waki_illustration , the photographic exhibition of Kool Herc in Blackpool (circa 2000) by
@henryiddon , and our reading corners sharing publications by people of colour from our House library 📚
And of course- a HUGE shoutout to Precious’ West African Food for the delicious food that brought everyone together! 🍛❤️
