• Will you back our bid? • If you haven’t heard the news, Blackpool has been selected by the government to bid to be the UK City of Culture 2029! Blackpool is one of nine locations across the UK to be longlisted. If successful, the town would receive £10 million to deliver a year-long celebration of arts and culture, helping to boost tourism and create new jobs across Blackpool. The title isn’t limited to official cities. Despite the name, towns, areas and regions can all apply if they can demonstrate a strong cultural offer and a compelling vision for the future. Over the coming months, we’ll be working closely alongside @creativeblackpool and a mix of local artists, creatives, cultural organisations, community groups, residents and more to help shape Blackpool’s bid for UK City of Culture 2029. This is an opportunity to celebrate the creativity, talent and cultural heritage that already exists across our well-known and much-loved seaside town, while creating new opportunities for communities, businesses and future generations 🫶🏼 ✨ Find out more and back the bid at: blackpool.gov.uk/CityofCulture

“Welcome to our Play Street” 💛 With a little help from Magic Club (a local youth club and charity supporting young people in Claremont), the road was closed to traffic for an hour and opened up for fun - and the kids think it’s “the best day ever!” We met… 🧹 Chief litter pickers keeping things tidy 🛴 Scooter speedsters zooming up and down 🏖️ Beach ball champions for a game or two 🌀 Hula hoop pros showing off their moves ➰ Skipping superstars jumping all afternoon 🎨 Chalk artists turning the road into a masterpiece This is what a Play Street is all about - giving children (and communities!) the space to come together, play, and enjoy their neighbourhood safely. With the summer holidays just around the corner, why not bring a Play Street to your neighbourhood? Apply here 👉 /PlayStreets Because sometimes, all it takes is one closed road, to open a whole world of play 💫

🎨 🖼️ We recently caught up with Sam and Aish from House of Wingz (one half of Coastal Colour Club) about the fantastic new mural in South Shore - brought to life by @panterbros - the other half of Coastal Colour Club - who were on site painting the piece. The artwork was inspired by a young boy who came to the @housewingz pop-up festivals on Waterloo Road to dance with the crew 🪩 The mural is a celebration of the creativity, energy and talent right here on the town 🧡 House of Wingz is a vibrant space offering dance, skating, music, graffiti art and much more - where everyone is welcome! Find out more at: houseofwingz.uk Did you know - Blackpool has been longlisted for UK City of Culture 2029. Back the bid and find out more at: /CityofCulture

ℹ️ BINFO • Starting from next week, bin collections are changing in Blackpool. Here’s a reminder of the key binformation. From 20 April, we’ll be introducing weekly food waste collections and move from fortnightly to three-weekly collections for general waste and recycling. These changes will help reduce waste and boost recycling rates. ℹ️ Know your bin day As part of this change, many households will have a new bin collection day. New schedules are available to view at: /BinDay (please type your postcode or street name in the box, no autofill data) ℹ️ One-off grey-lid bin collection During the changeover, there will also be a one-off grey-lid bin collection date for some residents, bridging the gap between the old and new schedule. This date is available online in your bin collection schedule, and we’ve also written to affected residents via letter. ℹ️ To make sure you don’t miss a collection: • Check your bin day and new collection cycle at: /BinDay • Look out for any one-off collection dates (this may not be your usual day) • Continue to put your bins out by 7am on your collection days • From 20 April, your food waste caddy will be collected every week to help manage waste between collections When the new collections begin different vehicles will collect your waste - please don’t panic if one bin is emptied before the other 😊 To see an overview of all waste changes in detail, including info about bigger blue bins, what can go in your food waste caddy and more visit: /WasteChanges @envecoblackpool

The ENOUGH campaign helps everyone see abuse for what it is. Every day, women and girls across the UK experience abuse, but abusive behaviours can be hard to spot. They are often pretending to be something else. ◾️Control is camouflaging as care. ◾️Manipulation is mistaken for love. ◾️Sinister behaviours can slip by unnoticed. It’s time to see these behaviours for what they are. Abuse. We are proud to support the UK Government's mission to halve violence against women and girls in a decade. There are loads of helpful tools and advice, including support and reporting, online at: gov.uk/ENOUGH For support with living free from abuse, you can also reach out to Fylde Coast Women's Aid: fcwa.co.uk #Enough #EndViolenceAgainstWomenAndGirls

We recently endorsed Blackpool and The Fylde College's bid to become a Defence Technical Excellence College. The bid was successful and now the college will work with employers and partners across the defence sector to support learners into skilled roles in areas such as engineering, nuclear and cyber security. Cllr Lynn Williams, Leader of Blackpool Council, said: “This is a major investment in Blackpool and the Fylde coast’s skills base. It aligns with our ambition for Blackpool to be a place where young people can train for quality jobs and build successful futures locally.” “That vision will be supported by our commitment to creating high-quality employment opportunities, including through developments such as Silicon Sands, alongside investment in world-class education facilities like the Multiversity. “This announcement supports our ambition for Blackpool to be a place where people can see clear opportunities for their future.” Read more: /CollegeDTEC
