Playing an opening set for Portal at the Ming tonight, and it dawned on me most people haven't ever heard me DJ. That's been intentional, as i just started learning about a year and a half ago, and wanted to spend time honing my skills before putting myself out there. I have a lot more to learn of course, but excited to start this next part of the journey - making dance floors move! I recorded this mix late last night, in between sessions of pumping my mom's basement out from rain flooding it all day! SoundCloud and Portal links in bio - I'm on at 9, but there's dope DJs all night so swing through!

🌀 Introducing our lineup for next Friday! More about the artists and set times : Upward Spiral 🌪️ Opening the Portal D. Hall • 9-10p @dizzydylanpdx began his journey in rock bands before finding a deeper home on the underground dance floor. A longtime patron of the scene, he now steps behind the decks, bringing that same passion and instinct for the room into his DJ sets. Más o Menos • 10-11:30p @djmasomenos Paola De La Cruz (aka @happynappystudio / más o menos) is a Dominican American visual artist and DJ bringing Afro-Caribbean and Latin sounds layered with ghetto tech grit. Her sets blend dembow, Latin house, and memory-triggering classics into something sweaty, unapologetic, and built for the dance floor—driven by a mission to bring authentic Dominican music to the PNW. C Powers • 11:30p-1a @cpowers_ms_mix Her sound draws from years spent collecting records in Atlanta and Chicago, honing crowd control in London clubs, fostering queer dance spaces, and performing with House of Gunt in Savannah and at solidarity dance nights in Portland. Her sets blend gay camp, anti-sophistication, and extended turntable technique with a sharp sense of juxtaposition. Alongside DJing, Cecilia has been active in anti-displacement organizing, exploring how sound can be used as a tool for disruption and collective action. Aaron Davis • 1-2:30a @acidcamp Is a DJ, promoter, and the mind behind Acid Camp, a podcast series, party, and record label rooted in discovering new perspectives through dance music. Known for curating immersive gatherings and dynamic sets, his sound moves fluidly from late-night acid and atmospheric techno to sunrise house and disco, always chasing that feeling of paradise on the dance floor. Othrwrld • 2:30-4a @othr_wrld is a trans performance artist, producer, and DJ— a self-described aural apothecary crafting immersive, utopian sound journeys. Blending ambient techno, trance, bass, breaks, and slambient textures, her work explores trans-futuristic sound. Based in Portland since 2017, she’s deeply connected to the local queer underground and founded the techno series Club Liminal in 2023. 🌀

Happy National Gymnastics Day to my favorite gymnast and birthday twin, Eden! Your gymnastics journey over the years has been so much fun! We're all so proud to see you follow something you feel genuinely passionate about, with such a healthy perspective about the whole experience at the same time! I'm really happy for you kiddo, and really looking forward to the upcoming competition season! PS we took this photo this evening on the waterfront, I really love it! (Great job by Eden holding still on those handstands so we could lock in!) #prouddad #japaneseamericanhistoricalplaza #nationalgymnasticsday #tommccallwaterfrontpark #portlandwaterfront #downtownportland #portland #oldtownchinatownpdx #oldtownchinatown #iphonephotography #iphonephotooftheday #portlandphotographer #portlandphotography

Lighting in the @lansuchinesegarden for the 25th Anniversary Gala last weekend was amazing. I have enjoyed walking the garden over the years and was a member before this, but getting the chance to enjoy the garden at night with a small team of folks to capture @thenoblerobot in action on the lighting was great fun and a great honor. Dozens of added lights were set up around the garden to enhance the view of the space from the Gala going on above. Special thanks to @dizzydylanpdx :) ———————————————————————— #lansuchinesegarden #oldtown #chinatown #downtownportland #travelportland #led #lightart #timebasedart #garden #latenight #technicolor #lightingdesign #pdx #portlandartist #eventphotography #landscape #d850

This past Sunday, I lost one of the most important people in my life: my stepdad, Carlos. He suffered a heart attack and stroke on July 4th and, after 9 days of fighting, we had to let him go. Carlos wasn’t just my stepdad; he was a father to me in every possible way. He came into my life 32 years ago, bringing stability and love at a time when my mom, my sister, and I needed it most. He remained that steady, loving presence for us all, right until the end. In high school, he let my band practice at our house while my mom was at work, fielding neighbor complaints to keep them off our backs. He’d load us into his van and drive us to Old Town for midnight shows at Satyricon on Mondays—often the only person in attendance. (And proudly rocked our band’s T-shirt, as you can see in one of these photos!) His support never stopped, attending every art show I produced out of my gallery in Old Town since moving here in 2019, purchasing art with my mom each time. He was always present with his granddaughters, meeting them at their level all throughout their lives. Being silly chasing them around the house, Play-Doh contests and board games during sleepovers, and attending as many gymnastics meets and soccer matches as he could. He helped my mom capture photos, celebrated their successes, and consoled them lovingly on the tough days. Carlos was a selfless friend and family member—always eager to help, generous with his time, money, and (sometimes unsolicited!) advice. Anyone who knew him already knows how deeply he showed up for people. He also loved being a gracious host, happily letting me and my friends turn our house into the hangout spot when we were younger, blending in with the crew like a boss. When I was 24, my dad passed away. Carlos was already a huge part of my life, but he knew his role deepened after that and he stepped up with so much love. I was incredibly blessed to have had Carlos as a father for 32 years. He always joked that he was “just passing through,” which seems a lovely and fitting way to frame his time with us. ✨ Rest in peace, Carlos. We love you SO much, and I can’t wait until we meet again. 🙏🏼🙇🏻‍♂️🖤🦌✨

Happy Father’s Day to me! Last summer, I decided to do a photo shoot with the girls—our first official one since their mom and I got divorced in 2018. I knew @melissarobinphoto would be the perfect photographer for the job, and she did NOT disappoint! We all had a blast during the shoot in Forest Park, and Melissa captured our personalities even better than I had imagined. My ADHD ass has been pulled in a million directions over the last year, and I could never find the right time to sit down and post them—but this felt like the perfect time. (Thank you, Melissa. I’ll literally cherish these for the rest of my days. 🙇🏻‍♂️🙏🏼🖤✨) These girls are everything to me. They bring so much joy, inspiration, motivation, purpose, and—most of all—unconditional love to my life every single day. I’m eternally grateful for their presence. Eva and Eden—I love you both with every single fiber of my being. Thank you for showing me who I am, for loving me like you do, and for being the compassionate, creative, funny, loving, unique kids that you are. The love and support you give me daily means everything, and it still warms my soul every time I hear one of you say “I love you”—at the end of a phone call, before bed, when I’m leaving for work, or the countless other times you so generously express it. I’m full of gratitude for the life we share today—and beyond excited for the future ahead together! #fathersday #girldad #thefutureisfemale #buddies

Took Eden to her first protest today - wasn't any civil disobedience to participate in, but she got a pretty loud "Fuck Donald Trump" out at one point! Plus she walked like 3-4 miles in Ugs - slay queen! 😈🤘🏼 #nokingsinamerica #nokings #immigrationnotdeportation #freegaza #freepalestine🇵🇸 #pride #stonewallwasariot

The last few weeks have been some of the most intense of my life, on both ends of the spectrum. More than anything they’ve deepened my conviction in who I am, what I’m about, what I’m capable of, and what matters most. Today in particular started off, well, crushing if I’m being honest! 😅 But I received an outpouring of love and support from friends and family encouraging me to keep pushing, and celebrating the successes of the project already. This love quickly shifted my perspective, and I am so grateful for my family, my community, my friends, and the opportunities in front of me! Can’t wait to do some seriously fun community building with these amazing daughters of mine tomorrow night! It’s rare I get to share a dance floor with them, and never one I’ve curated! I hope all of Portland makes their way to Old Town Chinatown tomorrow night to join us too - let’s weave some powerful magick together!!! PS, BIG shout out to @hasmood @unico_moomin_fanfiction @__nitebite and @silpher - when I knew this could potentially be an issue a few days ago and reached out to ask about availability if we had to move it to Saturday, NOT ONE of them hesitated. It took SO MUCH stress out of this before it even happened! Also shout out to @thenoblerobot who was already gonna be there, but has shown up 100% in every way throughout this entire project, creating an amazing experience with @studiosignco incredibly beautiful original artwork, central to everything this project is about and represents, and clearly created with love.

In a festival filled with big, vibrant, and exciting art experiences, it can feel like there’s something extraordinary at every turn. Amid all the energy and spectacle, this evening offers something equally bold—rooted not just in visual impact, but in the potential to transform Old Town Chinatown, a neighborhood layered with history, cultural richness, and a need for connection. It’s a celebration of the neighborhood’s spirit, its people, and the creative voices shaping its future. Last weekend, I saw how the installation transformed its surroundings, sparking curiosity, calm, and gratitude—affirming the power of beauty and connection. This is about healing and transforming Old Town Chinatown in ways that honor its history and build its future. It’s about compassion over displacement. Love over judgment. Celebration of others over self. Intention over greed. YOUR PRESENCE MATTERS. SHOW UP. CELEBRATE. BE PART OF THE STORY. 272 NW 3rd Ave, 5:30-9:30PM Free, across NW Everett from Lan Su It's going to be great weather don't worry! Also take @trimet if you can - they hooked up a generous part of the funding for this project, and I'm very grateful for their support!!! Big ups to @trailhead_cu too, for exactly the same reason! #lnyatlansu #lansuchinesegarden #oldtownchinatownpdx

Love the evolution of this project on the second night, Ethan Moses is bringing Nick Lee's art alive in mind-blowing ways! Really proud of the results of this collaboration, looking forward to seeing how much more amazing it will be with the addition of Hasan's artistry on Valentine's Day! 🐉🖤✨🐍 #pdxwlf #lansuchinesegarden #LNYatLanSu #oldtownchinatown #oldtownchinatownpdx #portland #pdxart #projectionmapping #chinesenewyear #lunarnewyear #chineseartists #chineseamericanartist #chineseart #yearofthedragon #yearofthesnake
