다이스케 카노, Egg Chain Drips 큐트옛샤프(cuteyetsharp)는 뉴트럴 컬러스(Neutral Colors) 매거진의 아트디렉터이자 그래픽 디자이너로 활동하는 다이스케 카노(Daisuke Kano)의 토크&리딩룸 이벤트를 코우너스 사무실과 CC space에서 진행합니다. 토크에서는 최근 도쿄의 타이거 마운틴 북숍에서 진행했던 그의 개인전 《Egg Chain Drips》와 동명의 출판물에 관해 이야기 합니다. 토크에 소개된 14점의 실물 도서는 이후 2주간 CC space에서 열람할 수 있도록 리딩룸이 운영될 예정이며, 소량 입고된 연계 출판물의 구매도 가능합니다. 아래는 이번 이벤트를 준비하며 주고받은 이메일에서 그가 소개한 전시 설명 일부입니다. “제 작업은 주로 클라이언트 프로젝트를 중심으로 이루어집니다. 저는 타인의 관점을 이해하고, 그에 대해 제 방식으로 응답하는 과정에 흥미를 느낍니다. 그래서 모든 프로젝트는 ‘어떻게 소통할 것인가’를 고민하는 데서 시작됩니다. 최근 도쿄에서 열렸던 개인전에서는 과거 작업을 선보여 달라는 요청을 받았습니다. 전시를 위해 새로운 캡션이나 패널을 디자인하기보다는, 제가 만들었던 책에서 사용된 형식 자체가 하나의 소통 방식이라고 생각했습니다. 따라서 그것을 다시 사용하는 것이 논리적이라고 판단했습니다. 예를 들어 『Neutral Colors』에서 사용된 형식—책의 크기, 서체, 글자 크기, 종이, 인쇄 방식 등—을 그대로 적용해 전시 해설문을 구성하는 방식입니다. 하지만 이렇게 할 경우 본래의 의미가 사라질 위험도 있습니다. 『Neutral Colors』의 형식은 그 책의 내용을 가장 적절하게 전달하기 위한 소통 방식을 고민하는 과정에서 만들어졌기 때문입니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 그 안에 담긴 정보를 다른 맥락에 적용하거나 재사용하는 것은 가능합니다. 저는 이 점이 특히 흥미롭게 느껴졌습니다. (…) 한 작업의 형식을 다른 작업에 적용하면 어떤 불협화음이나 어긋남이 생깁니다. Egg Chain Drips Daisuke Kano A collection of works by graphic designer Daisuke Kano. Published to accompany the exhibition of the same title, held at the bookshop and gallery “Tiger Mountain” from 4 February to 1 March 2026, this volume presents thirteen books Kano has designed to date, accompanied by his commentary. Reusing the paper stocks, printing methods, typefaces, and layout formats of each original publication, the works are reassembled into a single volume using varied printing techniques and papers. The formats are deliberately interchanged: the framework of Neutral Colors is applied to The Eyes of the Wind Pocket Tour Book 2022–2024, while that of The Eyes of the Wind is applied to NEUTRAL COLORS 4 MAKING MAGAZINE. Based on the premise that graphic design since modernism has operated upon a certain degree of publicness—grounded in the selection of standardized, shared materials—this work was produced with the aim of revealing the operative function of graphic design itself. Through misdirection generated by interchangeability and rearrangement, it brings to light the fault lines within processes otherwise meticulously designed down to the finest detail. “Meian” is a sub-label of Neutral Colors and a publishing project by graphic designer Daisuke Kano. Through graphic design, it explores paraphrase, logistics, oblique, and localization. Using equipment owned by Neutral Colors—primarily Risograph printing—the project circulates small-edition publications worldwide. This book serves as Meian’s founding statement and marks the launch of the publishing project. Meian (Light and Darkness) refers to the interplay of light and shadow and is also the title of an unfinished novel by Natsume Sōseki, a central figure in Japanese modern literature. The novel remained permanently incomplete due to his death. 【New Release】 oar review #4 – Daisuke Kano”Our Exquisite Replica Of ‘Eternity'” “oar review” is a series originally published on the website of oar press, a publisher primarily dedicated to producing art books in close collaboration with artists. Texts with each contributor’s own practice and methodology—together with new writings—are now being presented in printed form. 
This fourth volume features Daisuke Kano(@disk.kn )’s “Our Exquisite Replica Of ‘Eternity'”, originally published between September 2022 and July 2023. As a graphic designer working with printed matter, Kano traces the words and events that circulate around media, offering a critical reflection on the role of reproduction, publishing, and print in the contemporary moment. A place called the book—endless, reflecting light that continues to shimmer from a distant past—where our voices do not cease.
