Still coming down from the incredible experience that was the ‘I Forget Where We Were’ 10th-anniversary tour. I had the privilege of joining @benhoward_ and the band for a 5-week journey through the UK and Europe to celebrate one of my favourite records. It was an honour to play these songs and an absolute joy to share the experience with such an amazing group of people: @benhoward_ @ablazeoffeather @b_o_b_h_a_l_l @r_d_thomas @indiabourne_ @natwason @fieldbrass @jarvbone @migueltantos @wil__bot @willtbarrow @martijnx @joebull_guitar @sandervanlaere @rachelxlock @dangnorris @lilycarrgomm (my VM). + Vick, Shingo, Dani, Bobby, and the one and only John Cornfield. Special highlights included getting to hear up close the incredible talents of @billiemarten , @daisyrickman , and @bessatwell . Thanks to Ben, Mickey, Marty, @od_management , and @joeclark1 for making all this magic happen. For those wondering what I was up to “at the back” of the stage, here’s the setup: I worked with 2 x Akai reel-to-reel tape machines to process and live-loop the horn section, played a Tascam 414 like a mellotron (and layered textures with more tape loops), and played some other soundscapes with an Octatrack and modular synth. Props to my reel-to-reels – they’re older than me and still managed to hold up through the entire tour 😅 Finally, massive thanks to @jaydavison_ for capturing all these incredible moments with your 📸 wizardry. x

The last two days have been such a pure joy, supporting my friends and favourite band @ablazeoffeather And at the Minack theatre, too! I can’t imagine a better way to make my solo debut. Their set on Friday night was absolutely incredible. @mickeysmithetc has long been a source of creative support and encouragement. Without which, I’d probably not have shared my music with anyone. For that, thanks. Love you mate. I also got to share the stage with my dear friend Nat Wason for one track, which was such a special moment. Thanks for making the last few days so much fun: @mickeysmithetc #NatWason @kyletkeegan @indiabourne_ @toddbarden @r_d_thomas @wil__bot @riviesmith & @benhoward_ - I’ve loved every second & thank you all for your kind words about my sounds. 🙏 More music to share soon. For now, here is a clip of ‘Pica Pica’ Thanks for the 🎥 @thinkofasoftcarpet

Composing with Tape returns with @paulcousinsmusic this September. This is a week working with reel to reel machines, looking at recording, splicing and looping, alongside more experimental approaches such as tape delay and physical manipulation. What tends to happen over the week is a shift in how people relate to sound. Working directly with tape slows things down. It becomes more physical, more immediate, and often less predictable, in a good way. The group is small, and the structure is simple. Time to work, and time to share. Here's a testimonial from F. "It was so enriching and has brought back my excitement for recording and making sounds beyond a screen. Everything together made the perfect set of conditions for connecting to a new process but also reconnecting with the things I already make." There are two fully funded places available for this residency, intended to support those who may need financial assistance to attend. Grant deadline: June 20th, 2026. #analogue #tapeloop #cornwall #electronicmusic #workshop #tapes #retreat #reeltoreel

I’m pleased to say my score / soundtrack to Rose of Nevada will be released digitally on April 24th by @invadarecords (the same day the film is released) Invada previously released my scores for Bait, Enys Men & most recently my short ‘I Saw The Face Of God In The Jet Wash’ You can hear a minute or so of the track “Through The Gaps” taken from the score by turning your phone speaker on now. Rose of Nevada Vinyl & CD will be released around June time and available in decent record shops around the globe.

New Weekend Modular date announced with @ryk_modular Jake Knight designed the RYK M185 sequencer, which inspired the popular Intellijel Metropolis and Metropolix modules. Before designing musical instruments, he had a successful career as a director as part of the duo NE-O with Ryoko Tanaka, including the ahead-of-its-time VW and Gene Kelly Singing in the Rain advert featuring the incredible moves of David "Elsewhere" Bernal. These days he focuses on creating modular instruments with a distinctive character. This weekend is a chance to spend time with his full range, including his new Time Slice, a quad-channel #Eurorack audio looper and sampling machine. Jake will talk about his process designing and making these modules, and we'll explore FM synthesis in a modular context. Mostly, the weekend is about patching, listening, and seeing how someone else approaches their instruments. Whether you're new to modular or have been working with it for years, the focus is on collaboration and play. Each weekend includes access to @tomwhitwell + @musicthingmodular Workshop Systems, originally designed for the first Dyski Sound Maps residency in 2024. Fully funded grant place available. More information on this and other Weekend Modular events can be found via link in the Dyski bio.
