WHAT A YEAR! 2024, you blew it out of the park! This year has been more than I could’ve ever imagined and I’ve been lucky to do what I love in so many different ways - touring, recording, teaching, performing, collaborating, writing, arranging, coaching.. I’m amazed at how much you can fit into a week, let alone a year! I’ve had the privilege of working with incredible people, having the most brilliant experiences, and making memories that will stay with me forever, including being bitten by a pig in Japan 😆 To everyone I’ve worked for and with, and everyone I’ve shared a stage, studio, practise room, rehearsal room, or conversation with: thank you. Each and every one of you has made this year a stand-out special one for me. 2025 is already looking to be a fun one and I’m so excited to see what else is in store, but first, it’s time for a little rest, refuel and recharge (which is going to be an exciting adventure in itself!) Three complete runs through the The Lord of the Rings film trilogy… I’m not entirely sure what that makes it? A trilogy trilogy? A trilogython? Whatever the correct term is, it’s been quite a marathon and an absolute joy doing it with the @londonphilharmonicorchestra and this brilliant low brass section 🩷 Sold out, standing ovations every night, and we even got to meet Gandalf himself, Ian McKellen, last night… which honestly felt pretty special. And tonight, in true fellowship fashion, the lads even came back to mine for interval drinks 🍷 Scroll for the evidence ➡️

Absolutely stunning work by @siddkhoslamusic and the entire music team on @skydanceanimation ’s Swapped. I had the immense pleasure of playing didgeridoo on this soundtrack. Sourcing the exact pitch didgeridoos proved a little tricky, but thanks to Tim, and the expert help of Danny and Rich with their amazing mathematical brains, we worked out the precise measurements needed to take off one didgeridoo! It was such a fun session with the amazing @markgrahamcreative at Abbey Road Studios (thanks again for having me!), and incredible hearing the results in the control room afterwards… especially learning that I was providing sounds for the villain, the FireWolf! Looking forward to finally watching the movie this weekend. It’s quite emotional to share my final President’s column for the International Trombone Association Journal. Serving this remarkable global community, especially as the first female president in ITA history, has been an extraordinary honour, and I will forever be deeply grateful for the trust and support from all my fellow trombone players around the world 🌍

It’s a big day! I’ve just updated to iOS 26.4 and the trombone emoji is finally here 🪊 It was first officially proposed over seven years ago, and three years back I submitted an additional formal application when I started my ITA Presidency hoping to see it approved during my three year term… And here it is, just in time! A small symbol, but a lot of happy trombone players all over the world 🪊
