I don't know how I got so lucky to be surrounded by such brilliant, warm, and talented people. ❤️ Huge thank you to everyone who came together to kick off the “Borderless: Together Outside” series: the panelists, Dimension Gallery Sculpture Park, and all our visitors! Not only did y'all create an insightful conversation, but the event had such a warm and inviting energy. I'm so grateful to each of you and I've gone into this week totally inspired after Sunday’s talk. One of the many notes I took during the conversation is this quote from Kill Joy: "Place became not just a space we exist in but a character in our lives". All my motivations for creating the series deal with interconnectedness, so considering place as a character in our lives relates perfectly. I think often about our existence as part of the land, our interconnectedness with all life. And also how the land is alive, and when we look into a landscape, the land looks back at us. 🌲👁️ Check out my work "The Land Stares Back" at Dimension Gallery Sculpture Park, on view 24/7 until further notice. Follow each of these amazing people to keep up with their important work! 👁️🌳Join us this Sunday!!🌳👁️ The event is completely free and open to the public! Though donations are accepted to continue future Borderless: Together Outside programming. To RSVP or send a donation, visit our Eventbrite at /BorderlessPanel (linked in bio) The Borderless: Together Outside series kicks off with a panel discussion led by Paloma Mayorga and artwork by Darcie Book. Mayorga will moderate a conversation about human relationships to nature and landscape with panelists Jamal Hussain, Kill Joy, and Mueni Loko Rudd, taking place on Sunday March 24th, 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Dimension Gallery Sculpture Park (950 Springdale Rd, ATX 78702). The conversation coincides with The Land Stares Back, an interactive art intervention by Darcie Book. Please bring your picnic blankets and pillows for lawn seating. Limited chair seating will be available for those who need it. The Borderless: Together Outside series addresses topics at the intersection of art and environmentalism, led by Austin's LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and refugee communities. Some of our most vulnerable populations feel unsafe and unwelcome in our shared outdoor spaces, and are therefore less likely to experience the joy and major health benefits of time spent in nature. Our goal is to make change in this area through the ongoing community series, and other collaborative efforts. The project's background is aligned with the artistic practice of founder, Darcie Book, as it considers our complex human relationship with the land. The idea is that we look into a landscape and the land looks right back at us. The land is aware. It is alive, and it sees us. Thanks to Wayne Alan Brenner @austinchronicle for recommending our event in this week's calendar. 🙏♥️ This project is supported in part by the City of Austin Economic Development Department and made possible by our generous hosts at Dimension Gallery Sculpture Park, Colin McIntyre and Moya McIntyre.
