we don’t know what the future of DW holds but we do know for a long time we physically held space for a LOT of different types of creatives + performer’s who are hurting right now due to hurricane helene. funds are crucial to so many folks in our communities survival so this a small way we thought could help get funds to people directly. not everyone has service or energy in the midst of disaster, to fill out a form for aid, they need MONEY TO SURVIVE ! for those outside of wnc esp venues, touring bands, tattoo shops, pole studios, drag show producers, comedy producers…whatever the fuck. y’all can help by reaching out to creatives in wnc to book or host them!! let’s get real it’s already hard af to be a damn creative in asheville & now with this hit, the recovery is a long road. so pls dig in your couch cushions for some extra coin & pass it out now & moving forward. we love you + fuck helene 😘 & ty to our og @holdenmesk for the graphics 🖤

⭐️ UPDATES FOR TOMORROW’S SHOW ⭐️ The venue has changed!!! Since not being able to renew the lease at our 701 Haywood Road location due to the building being bought out, we have been doing different pop up shows around Asheville and this one has been moved to: 594 EMMA ROAD, ASHEVILLE NC, 28806 PLEASE follow stories here on instagram for live updates about parking, this is in the backyard of a studio so there is minimal parking available on site. There will be parking locations announced on our stories, but please LFYT OR CARPOOL if you are able to! THE TIMES HAVE CHANGED AS WELL!! Due to a noise ordinance in the area of the new location, we have had to push the doors up to 7PM and the music up to 8PM. We appreciate all of you for supporting Different Wrld thru this crazy transition, it’s been emotional + stressful but we are powering thru! We cannot wait to find a new space and have you all back but until then.... I’m grateful to have seen @autonomousmanas at the last night of Different Wrld in this space. It was bittersweet as we look forward to the next moves of the collective that is @similarwrld , which curated this rare space in our community for BIPOC and queer makers and artists. we have 8 days left in 701.. I have been doing a lot of reflection in general bc life is fuckin nuts, but especially since we found out the news that we wouldn’t be able to call 701 Haywood Road our home for much longer. If you’re not aware of what’s going on, go ahead and check out our pinned post on @similarwrld or go to our website. I wanted to take a bit of time to share some of my thoughts & feelings. Different Wrld has been my creative passion project since 2016, at a time when I didn’t acknowledge myself as a “business owner” or even a “creative”. I am full of emotion thinking about how far the concept of a Different Wrld has grown over the past 8 years… & how much it has changed my entire life. I was 21 years old when the idea of what Different Wrld started to form & I am now a few short months away from turning 30. I often stray away from giving myself my flowers for the immense amount of courage, coordination, collaboration, learning, creativity, passion, brainstorming, and mental stability ( or what’s left of it ) to do this shit but I am fuckin proud of myself. What makes me the most proud is the people… I am currently typing this up while the core crew members sit amongst me answering & writing countless emails, writing checks to pay bills, crew, and artists, planning outside of the box ideas to stick out on socials, placing liquor orders & scheduling, organizing our hodge podge of sound equipment… all this & more to make Different Wrld function. I think what is so special about this crew, from our bartenders to the office manager, to me, is that we started this project with just the power of self taught experience to make it all happen. It’s not a miracle why something like this was built from small beginnings. It’s a dream made possible because of shared resources & skills, community members showing up, crowdfunding, brainstorming, late nights & long days. We are all a part of different marginalized communities, many which overlap & differ but the connection point is that we all have to get creative to live & thrive in a world not built for us. Hello angels! <3 We are so grateful you are here. We took the leap to start this dream in October 2020. We’ve spent almost 2 years since then digging in our heels to make it a reality and keep the vision alive. If you’re not up to date, our building of 701 Haywood Rd was put up for sale in the fall of 2023 and was sold for 2.3 million dollars in March of this year. Since it was listed as fully rented, we had a glimmer of hope that we would be able to extend our lease after the sale, but the building sold, in turn putting our lease in jeopardy. After a few conversations with the new buyers, it was decided they would not be renewing our lease along with a few other tenants in the building with our last day being April 30th, 2024. Obviously we were devastated at this news for many reasons. We have put so much love and care into doing our best to create a space loved by many. We have witnessed so many magical moments in the space from clown shows, fundraisers, live music, dance parties, mechanical bulls, drag shows, workshops, movement classes, dinner, love ceremonies… It’s an overwhelming testimony to the importance of spaces like this here in Asheville.
