// DQP ANNOUNCEMENT // Thank you to my friend James Martin for founding DIE QUIETER PLEASE with me. James has moved on to pastures new, and I wish him all the love in the world. Also big thank you to the very talented Anna Korbel (@arkorbel ) who we commissioned to illustrate the first two issues. We started DQP in a pub garden as a duo. Ahead of ISSUE 003, I thought it wise to assemble a larger team, similar to how Danny Ocean assembles a team in Ocean’s Eleven. This team I hope, will sustain the tradition of our inebriated beginnings. From left: Rene Hrustić (Editor), Patricia Carro García (Web Designer & Developer), Eleni Papachristodoulou (Design Director), Frankie Faccion (Founding Editor), Will Kaye (Editor & Communications Officer), Anna Hindmarch (Art Director & Illustrator). Will Kaye and Frankie Faccion drink lime White Claws with Shaad D’Souza at his establishment of choice, The Queen Adelaide. __ THIS TIME, WE’RE IN THE DARK HEART OF HACKNEY. Writer, music critic and founder of Shaad Magazine Shaad D’Souza has requested we meet him at The Queen Adelaide, a dimly lit dive. It is Tuesday. There is a vague, and ultimately futile resolution to not get totally pissed this evening. Inside, the place is adorned with trinkets, cutouts of the likes of Britney and Cher, wall-mounted animal heads. There is a low hum of conversation from the punters, a promise of wilder plans to follow. Shaad presents us with three lime White Claws. __ Link in bio to read it and join our Substack for monthly interviews. Graphic by @papa_whatever

Belated St Patrick’s Day special. Will Kaye and Frankie Faccion drink Guinness and Baby Guinness with Jimmy McIntosh at his establishment of choice, The Shawl. ___ IT WAS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE WE PAID THE PINT MAN A VISIT. It is St Patrick’s Day, and we have been summoned to South Harrow—the beating heart of Metroland—by writer, dead pub influencer and professional liver-fattener Jimmy McIntosh. Our venue is The Shawl, a true McIntesque boozer: full of grogged up old boys sloshing back the euroslop. Ceremony dictates that our guests choose the drink, but we all agree it would be sacrilegious to not drink Guinness on Saint Paddy’s. Keen to differentiate the offering from our last interview, Jimmy orders a tray of Baby Guinness to accompany the pints. ___ Link in bio to read it and join our Substack for monthly interviews. Will Kaye and Frankie Faccion drink Guinness with Yoel Noorali at his establishment of choice, The Bricklayers Arms. ___ YOEL NOORALI IS HAVING A BABY. Well, by now he’s already had it. A few days before his baby was due, Yoel agreed to meet us at The Bricklayers Arms, a pub in the residential hinterland between Dulwich and Norwood. It was the first sunny Saturday afternoon in months. You would not have guessed this from the atmosphere of the Bricklayers. It is empty as we arrive, aside from Yoel, one other patron, and the landlord, Phil. The public bar contains a disassembled kitchen unit, while in the saloon bar two televisions play at the same time: one the races, the other The Spice Girls. Yoel orders three pints of Guinness. ___ Link in bio to read it and join our Substack for monthly interviews. Graphic by @papa_whatever

Will Kaye and Frankie Faccion drink rum and ginger beer with a hobbling, crutch-bound Ashani Lewis at an establishment she would never usually choose, the Three Colts Tavern. ___ UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE WOULD TONIGHT’S DESTINATION, the Three Colts Tavern in Bethnal Green, ever be nominated by a reasonably minded person as their establishment of choice. It has a distinct WeWork energy. And yet, novelist Ashani Lewis has fractured her tibia in a skiing fiasco, and is temporarily confined to hobbling distance of where she’s staying. She did nominate a much better pub—The Camel—but sadly, a Tennyson descendent recently beat her to it. We arrive to find Ashani on crutches sporting a very stylish leg brace. She informs us we are drinking spiced rum and ginger beer tonight. ___ Link in bio to read it and join our Substack for monthly interviews. Ashani’s novel Suckerfish is out now with @dialoguepublishing .

Will Kaye (@wil_lkaye ) and Frankie Faccion (@hagbaudelaire ) drink red wine with Gabrielle Sicam at her establishment of choice, Big J’s Biltong Bar. __ OUR FACES ARE COVERED IN HOT SAUCE AND PICKLE JUICE. We lined our stomachs this time. Chicken sandwiches the size of our heads, from The Dolphin in King’s Cross. Then we’re off on the Thameslink down to deepest darkest Deptford, where founding editor Frankie spent a year living above the infamous nightclub slash toilet, The Bunker. We’re here to meet Gabrielle Sicam, who has decided we go to Big J’s Biltong Bar, a true blue dive at the south end of the high street. Sadly, the eponymous Big John* is not here tonight. *(The Big John who runs Big J’s is not ‘bosh’ Big John). __ Link in bio to read it and sign up for monthly interviews. Graphic by @papa_whatever

Our independent magazines show is back for one night only, featuring @die_quieter_please , @dispatch__media , @thefencemag and @piscinemag all on stage at @stbridefoundation on Thursday 5th February. Each magazine has chosen two of its writers to read their stories, taking their words from the page onto the stage. We held the first of these events last year and it was loads of fun, so come along and join us for a great magazine night out. (You'll also be able to buy magazines and merchandise direct from the publishers on the evening.) Tickets cost £6.50 from the link in bio and all proceeds go to St Brides to help them continue their great work documenting and celebrating the past and present of graphic design, typography and publishing. Money well spent!

Will Kaye and Frankie Faccion drink cask ales and lager with Eleanor Tennyson at her establishment of choice, The Camel. ___ AT LAST, SOME MOVEMENT. In the fall of 2025, we met with poet Eleanor Tennyson in the dark heart of East London. There was a particular excitement in the air, mostly because Eleanor was the first writer in our interview series to take us to an actual pub. Please imagine the scene: autumn leaves, and the rain is still novel. There is a mugginess when you wear your little mittens. We meet Eleanor at The Camel in Bethnal Green, where she orders us glasses of freshly pulled cask ale. ___ Link in bio to read it and join our Substack for monthly interviews.
