Another on the “things our immigrant parents wouldn’t do” list. Camping! It’s a privilege to choose to leave the home you pay for with your hard-earned money to go “rough it” in the elements. Using this term ridiculously loosely because staying in a Jyubako cabin designed by Kengo Kuma
@kkaa_official completely outfitted by
@snowpeakusa is the furthest thing from actual camping. There are also tent sites
@snowpeakcampfield for those inclined, but we opted for the full glamp experience. Give us temperature controlled units! With electricity and a fridge and a queen size bed, and our own bathroom! In the most comfortable way possible, we “embraced nature” and soaked in the best of PNW coastal air — salty, moist, and a hotbed for delicious oysters and clams. YUM.
Not gonna lie, we might be ruined for regular camping here on out. We want a Snowpeak Campstore and Ofuro spa everywhere now.
Shoutout
@traderjoes @uwajimaya @costco for all our camp meals and snacks! Shoutout
@snowpeakcampfield for carrying
@alecsicecream and
@mcconnellsicecreams and other lux provisions — chef’s kiss.
Highlights of camp kitchen: instant noodle bowls supplemented with grilled chicken thighs, fried eggs, and kimchi; a seafood feast of local grilled oysters with chive butter and sake butter clams; chicken, prawn, and gizzard skewers cooked on a konro grill we brought with us (🫶🏼
@loveandrum ). We also used the sake butter clam sauce and kimchi to make fried rice.
Eat well, friends. :)
PS. The lil seaside town of Long Beach is one of the oldest in Washington and every bit as kitschy as you’d expect.
PPS. Our pal
@dankhole brought his adventure mobile, so of course we said yes to doing donuts on the 28-mile long beach! 😅
