Three weeks later, weâve had a chance to catch our breath from the whirlwind of #GetLuckyArtShow 2024. What a blast it was.
You saw incredible art pieces, ate dumplings, had drinks, bid on auction items and threw your name into the raffle. Over 1200 of you came through in two days!
Big love to our generous sponsors and volunteers â we wouldnât have been able to put on this free community event without your support. And thank you to our artists â without you, there wouldnât art!
We are wrapping up a few final things, including making a donation to @thevplfoundation and @dewcvancouver , two impactful organizations for our community.
A full recap is up on the site that includes highlights, photos, and the list of lucky raffle winners. Link in bio.
Thanks for joining us at Get Lucky this year!
With gratitude,
Pearl, Sylvia, and Flavia

This week, we were among the first in North America to step inside the new @maybachluxury shop-in-shop at @eyesonoptical , a dedicated retail space that marks the brandâs first presence of its kind on the continent.
Wolfgang Thelen, CEO and Owner of Maybach Icons of Luxury, was on hand to mark the occasion. The space brings together a curated edit of luxury apparel, eyewear, and accessories, a natural extension of the Maybach legacy, housed in one of Vancouverâs most respected luxury eyewear destinations.
The eyewear feels especially lux: handcrafted in Germany using premium sustainable materials. Their signature frames combine ultra-light titanium, often plated in 18k or 22k gold, rose gold, or platinum, with sustainably sourced natural buffalo horn, fine woods, carbon fiber, and leather. â¨

Thereâs a fresh new reason to make the trip to Metrotown: Nike just unveiled a nearly 20,000 sq ft reimagined store, home to BCâs first Nike By You customization studio and the first Nike Skims launch in Canada.
With FIFA World Cup 2026 on the horizon, we customized soccer tees on-site and got a run at the pop-up Full Tilt immersive soccer skills activation (open to all) â but guest pro-athlete @omaxprosper put us all to shame đ
Bonus âď¸ For a limited time, youâll also get a free gift with $200 purchase (Nike Vancouver branded @mybkr water bottle)

Transported to Puglia for an evening to celebrate the summer days ahead with the arrival of Calafuria RosĂŠ, a wine that tastes like a warm sunrise over the Adriatic. The bright peachy-pink colour, made from the Negroamaro grape grown in the heel of Italyâs boot, feels like bottled Apulian sun.
On the nose: juicy grapefruit and pomegranate with a whisper of lavender; delicate, floral, unmistakably Mediterranean.
@calafuriawine is now available at @bcliquorstores , on sale for $26.99 from $29.99 through May, and by the glass at @earlsrestaurant all summer long. đЎ
The @vancouverartbookfair is back for its 14th edition. This yearâs fair brings together 100+ exhibitors and 27 new participants from across BC and beyond, including collectives from New York, Taipei, and Veracruz.
Expect zines, photobooks, risograph prints, letterpress editions, handbound chapbooks, and museum-quality artist publications you simply wonât find anywhere else.
Beyond the tables, the public program is packed: catch a panel with art librarians from UBC, Emily Carr, UVic, and SFU, or join Vietnamese diaspora poet Winston LĂŞ for a workshop on asemic writing on Sunday May 17 at 2pm.

Named for their mĂŁe (mother), @mariaceleste.yvr is brothers Justin and Cristian Isidroâs love letter to Portugalâs tascas â the neighbourhood spots where food, wine, and conversation just happen. Opening this summer on Fraser St, the 36-seat restaurant brings that unhurried, community spirit to Fraserhood.
Cristian (Kissa Tanto, Lisboeta London, Cozinha das Flores Porto) is in the kitchen cooking traditional Portuguese dishes through a modern lens â bacalhau Ă brĂĄs, arroz de marisco, pastel de nata â built around BCâs seasonal ingredients. Justin leads the floor and a curated all-Portuguese wine list spanning Alentejo to Vinho Verde.
Thereâs nothing quite like it in Vancouver yet.
Coming this summer. đľđš

Vancouverâs newest restaurantâŚis 18 years old?
The beloved @lesfauxbourgeois enters a new chapter this spring under a change of hands to join the @gaiahouse team, offering the same warmth, same unpretentious charm, with new energy in the kitchen.
Original founder Andreas Seppelt is staying on the FOH, joined by co-chefs @davidcassese19 and @chefbrent.thornton keeping some of the classics alive (steak frites, escargot en cocotte, beef tartare) alongside a new Raw Bar and cocktails made for lingering. Beverage director @notdylanriches is introducing bistro-inspired creations like truffle martinis, elderflower pastis, bourguignon highballs.
The dining room will remain largely unchanged while the kitchen is getting a refresh. Opening later this spring. Weâll be following along!

A proud Vancouver literary moment! â // Vancouver-based author Mar Andersons and illustrator Irvin Walkes have been honoured with a 2026 Christopher Award for Pablo, their bilingual childrenâs book about a little Mexican street dog who gets separated from his family and has to find his way back home.
Itâs a book about grief, belonging, and resilience, written in a way that actually helps kids process big emotions. A child psychologistâs lesson plan is included, and when you finish reading, thereâs a free video game that goes along with the story.
Pablo is one of 10 winning books this year as the Christopher Awards mark their 77th year. The awards recognize authors, illustrators, writers, producers, and directors whose work âaffirms the highest values of the human spiritâ this year alongside creators of nine TV, cable, and feature film productions.
Andersons is a 30-year veteran of the film industry, working as an actor, producer, and founder of a virtual advertising agency behind award-winning music videos, commercials, and branded content.
Walkes brings two decades of illustration, watercolour, and design work to the project, drawing constant inspiration from the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

This is closest thing to dining in Morocco on a Sunday morning, right in the heart of Yaletown.
@moltaqa.vancouver has a new weekend brunch menu. Delish, authentic dishes and house-made pastries by Casablanca chefs.
We also learned that they have an exclusive partnership with @lamborghini Espresso (Vancouverâs only distributor).
Moroccan food + Italian coffee. What a combo. đđź

Forty years ago, a geodesic dome rose on the edge of False Creek, built for a Worldâs Fair and never meant to outlast it. Spoiler alert: it did.
On May 2nd, Science World marks the 40th anniversary of Expo 86, the exposition that transformed Vancouverâs waterfront and accidentally gave the city one of its most iconic institutions.
The kids who ran through it during the inaugural years are now bringing their own kids. Eighteen million visitors later, that dome is still making people genuinely excited about science. Forty years in, still a beloved field trip destination.
A few ways to celebrate:
đźď¸ The 40th Anniversary Display brings Expo 86 memorabilia into the atrium for a nostalgia hit.
âĄď¸ May 7 â After Dark: Retro Science, the 80s edition (19+), takes over the dome, DeLorean and flux capacitor included.
đď¸ Shop the exclusive Expo 86 merch line, including the Expo Ernie plush!
