I’m a huge lover of cars, my biggest issue is I make crappy money and can’t feed my addiction, but that’s a story for another time. Like most people I grew up knowing how to drive stick, also like most people I’ve got hang ups. The major one is exotics should be manuals, Ferrari’s Lamborghini’s Aston Martin’s should not confirm to anyone that needs to drink coffee and take selfies at the same time. I get the tech in these cars are on of the charts, if you don’t have race car chops you’ll never drive that car to its abilities. As sexy as paddle shifters are it’s not as cool going through gears. Thats what was going through my mind when sketching things out.
Don’t get me wrong if one of these fell on my lap tomorrow I wouldn’t send it back, I’m sure id learn to love it.

Interesting where an idea takes you, few years Mar had a story he wanted to tell and asked me to come along for the ride. We had no clue what we jumped into, almost 4 years of sweat and elbow grease, countless hours of sketches and concepts that were either green lit or trashed, the amount of concepts and sketches I had drawn is probably bigger than a phone book(a phone book is something old folks would use to find people places things, ask your parents).
The #christopheraward for @pablokidstori is massive accomplishment, to be able to do this with @marandersons@rob_berg and @jbwheatfield I couldn’t be happier about what we’ve done.

There was talk about this freak of a machine, everything about it seemed impossible unless it was a hot wheels toy. The way this little MG with a blown 427 was mentioned would get the same looks of some one that would say they saw bigfoot or a UFO once. You may have raised an eyebrow or might entertain that conversation if you were drunk or stoned enough. It was a weekend and had to take the bus somewhere, and then I heard it moments before I saw it the sound of expensive parts working together. Midnight blue flash with two broad white stripes that hugged the road turning right off Dover ridge drive on to 33rd. I ran to corner only to catch it zip out of sight. It was real, only got to see once think I only told one person, because we were car guys, he knew I wasn’t blowing Smoke.

Jerry and Shane were a lot alike, cool, scholastically smart and a good flanker with great wheels. We didn’t win much but on occasion and finished my blocks I got to see him cruise into the end zone. We drifted apart once we got to highschool, but always acknowledged eachother in the hallway or a little conversation from time to time. The carwash I worked at is where I caught wind of what he working on in his garage, a 66 chevy truck with a 283, all built by him and his dad. Before I got my wheels I had to rely on everyone’s favourite, city transit; besides showing you all the neighbourhood hotspots(there weren’t any) it went right past his house. The only thing I caught was his dad mowing the lawn, unless you saw Jer outside not like I was going to knock on his door out of the blue, “I’ve come to see the monster Dr. Frankenstein.” That’s was a big FOPA. Only got to see her once, she was every bit as sweet a wip as it was rumored.

There a people you go to highschool with that have a level of quiet cool you see in TV shows or movies. Book smart, good athlete and a grounded sense of self that never needed the validation of others. Probably why he chose a 65 red Chevelle, the kind of ride that transports classic car guys back in time, makes them smile a smile they won’t explain if you catch them. One memory that sticks out, how cold and tasty Miller High Life was in summer of 81, smile everytime that comes to mind. Would probably smile bigger if a red 65 Chevelle rolled past me.

When I was kid, the rite of passage was the first car you bought. Wasn’t just a statement of independence but an expression of who you were, this generation can’t wrap their heads around. Home video games were to make an appearance but not really a thing. If we weren’t playing street hockey, football or riding bikes around the neighbourhood we’d be at a friends house watching their dads or older brothers fixing something in the garage.
Ed had this midnight blue 69 Beaumont tore rubber off tires like nobodies business, I remember the amount of smoke in the highschool parking lot while laying down a patch you couldn’t see through except for the faint flicker of the taillights through the fog close to the entrance. That was a badge of honor, hearing people say, “that’s the guy who did that smoke show at lunchtime.”
