The hackathon floor was a buzz. And we built real businesses. The Nairobi Startup Club x Women Impact Network Innovation Hackathon at Diba Studios was a full day of teams in the trenches building real solutions for refugee economies. Self-sustaining. Revenue-generating. No grants. No government funding. Just solutions that actually have to work on the ground with real people. The judges loved what they saw but love wasn't the criteria. Does it solve the actual problem? Can it sustain itself? Can it make money? Teams met that bar. Every single one showed up. The mentors were locked in, one team, full focus, the whole day. The MCs carried the room from start to finish. The grill masters fed us like they knew what was at stake. And when Jos Lyon and his guy called a dance break in the middle of it all, the whole room went in. Big shout out as well to @projectmochahq for keeping us caffeinated. We needed that. That's just what this community is. Project Waste Value and all our winning teams, we're in your corner now. Real mentorship, real strategic support. This isn't the end of anything, it's the start. Our partners were in this with us and it showed in every moment. DIBA is more than a co-working space, it's a space designed for people who build things. Fair Building Studio × Nairobi Design Week: Part 2: Workshop Brick by Brick: Designing Climate-Responsive Modules How can a simple brick respond to climate? In this hands-on workshop, participants will create a parametric brick model in Rhino/Grasshopper, exploring how geometry can improve airflow, shading, and thermal performance in Nairobi’s climate. The session connects digital design with the human role in shaping more climate-responsive architecture. Participants are asked to bring their own laptop. The workshop has a limited capacity of 15 places. Step into Handled by Humans: A Double Helix Installation — a spatial work by @eperu_magala On view during Nairobi Design Week at @diba_studios Studio, 7–15 March. Inspired by the double helix, the installation reflects the shared human code threaded through every garment — connecting the many hands that produce, trade, repair, wear, and recover textiles for a new life.
