Introducing one of this year’s Next Jazz Legacy awardees: @devongatesmusic . 🎶 A bassist, vocalist, and composer from Atlanta, Georgia, now based in Brooklyn, Devon Gates has worked with esteemed artists including Next Jazz Legacy Artistic Director @terrilynecarrington ,@vijayiyer , and @jenshyu , and performed at venues including The Jazz Gallery, the Monterey Jazz Festival, and the London Jazz Festival. Most recently, she is featured on bass and vocals in Terri Lyne Carrington's and 2024 Next Jazz Legacy awardee @christiedashiell ’s GRAMMY-nominated release, ‘We Insist 2025!’. Devon's bandleader is @thejasonmoran , with @diannereeves as her Creative Mentor. Now in its fifth year, Next Jazz Legacy offers intergenerational apprenticeship, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to emerging jazz artists who contribute to the future of jazz.
