[Intermediate Zones C2-E7] is an attempt to engage with the Bijloke as a more-thanhuman community that unfolds over time. Gathered images, recordings, mappings and observations are fragments that continue to reorganize themselves. This accumulated material becomes the basis for ongoing activation. Apple juice droplets, drawn from the Bijloke’s historic apple trees, create temporary conductive bridges that modulate the collected data. These ephemeral connections introduce contingency into the signal, shaping emergent visual compositions that form and grow denser over time. They are interpreted by machine analysis, informed by the formal documents that shape the site, and subsequently generate a propositional response in the shape of an action, ritual, or form. It is a relay that both carries and catalyses collective material becoming.

@henryvandeveldeawards
• Highlights from jury feedback
“Decentering Design is an inspiring quest for a design culture in which humans are no longer the only benchmark. A rich, multi-layered story unfolds in text and images, inviting reflection as well as action. (...) It is a contemporary and relevant project that fundamentally expands the discourse about design.”
Thannks to everyone involved: the team; contributors; colleagues; friends.

Back from leading a workshop and giving a lecture at the ArchitreeTecture Symposium in Venice, IT, part of the Venice Architectural Biennale @labiennale - In our workshop, we explored projects through more-than-human perspectives and developed new ways to integrate agency, relationality, and multiple worldviews into the creative process. Grateful to @gytis.ooo , @momentwith_ruta , and @jtutlyte for the invitation.

The start of the new academic year calls for a cozy gathering. And what better way to celebrate than by picking apples together?
On Monday, September 15 from 5 to 7 pm, we warmly invite you to the Bijloke to harvest apples (and pears). The plan is to press them into juice.
For us, it’s a way to celebrate the end of summer.
To honor how this orchard, with each of its unique varieties and trees, helps shape our campus.
And to pause for a moment and recognize how “the Bijloke” shapes who we are.
With this harvest, we bring the academic calendar into conversation with the ecological calendar of the Bijloke. In doing so, we create opportunities to experience the meaning of this place together and to carry it forward.
But above all, we simply want to pick some apples, make some juice, and enjoy a drink in good company. It’s helpful if you let us know you’d like to join – but feel free to just drop by as well.
We hope to see you there!

Tuesday, we presented Decentering Design - Practice in a More-than-human World at the @kunsthalgent , followed by an interesting conversation on shared themes in three recent book projects.

Thinking and Acting beyond Anthropocentrism
27.05.25 - FROM 20:00 - KUNSTHAL GHENT
Three recently completed book projects inspire an evening of reflection. From very different angles these projects look for ways to think and act beyond anthropocentrism.
They challenge the idea of the human as a singular, dominant maker of the world, seeking to demonstrate a rich plurality of perspectives instead. How can artists and designers be receptive in their work to the voices of the non-human entities we live among?
Disobedient Bodies marks the first public moment for two newly formed research clusters at KASK & Conservatorium: The Body Plural and Disobedient
Practices.
Members of both clusters will present their work and engage in dialogue around these themes, inviting new ways of imagining our relationships with the entities around us.
The event will consist of a small exhibition, informal presentations and an in-depth conversation about the areas where the books and the research clusters overlap.
The evening will be moderated by curator and researcher
Edith Dove.

Liberate the Machines!
Our publication ‘Decentering Design - Practice in a More-than-human World’ is now in the bookstores.
What happens when design stops being centered around only the human? What if we design together with rivers, fungi, plants, animals, …
The publication merges theory with practice, including interviews with artists, designers, policy officers as well as exercises that cultivate a deeper sensitivity to the interconnected more-than-human community we form with all living beings.
Grateful to have contributed to this project, together with @deroo.bert@mirte__va and Glenn Deliège; as well as @artpapereditions
And a special thanks for all the contributors for their input, insights and conversations.

In Dartmoor NP I quickly learned to connect the difference in vegetation to the speed I would be able to walk. It took me moreover only two wet falls to see where in the marsh I would run the risk of sinking.
For almost 2 days I stopped admiring the beauty of the landscape. I was not walking through the landscape but in it.
I understand the need for pathways in most urban located nature reserves, but oh what is it good to be able to do without.
Contemplating how that same connection can be realised without driving 750km and having wet feet for 24h.

When searching your google library for an image to fit the idea of becomming animal as explained by Delueze and Guattari in Corry Shores' what is it like to become a rat', that sunday morning dandelion experiment suddenly becomes 'work related'
I am still figuring out if this is a positive thing.
