Join Ellen Sickenberger and Jenny Milani in a whirlwind of time bending, time loss, and relationship drama; connected through quantum gravity whether expelling matter or absorbing it into nothingness. The rules of human relationships and of the universe are the same: Nothings matter. DEPTH is a project-based contemporary dance company currently based in Arizona. Founded in NYC in 2017 by Artistic Director Ellen Sickenberger, DEPTH has presented work in venues including the Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater (NYC), Manhattan Movement & Arts Center (NYC), Dixon Place (NYC), Peridance Salvatore Capezio Theater (NYC), The Huntington Theater (Boston), Southwest Arts Center (Atlanta), Dock11 (Berlin), Suzanne Dellal (Tel Aviv), The Herberger Theatre Center (AZ), Phoenix Center for the Arts (AZ) and more. DEPTH has collaborated on two dance films, one of which has been awarded Audience Favorite at three different festivals throughout the U.S. The company has been commissioned for numerous split bill shows and residencies across the country. Ellen's work has been described as ""hauntingly beautiful"" and ""captivatingly chilling"" [BWW Reviews] with ""stunning and economical"" partnering [The Dance Enthusiast]. With an emphasis on humanism, DEPTH uses athletic, theatrical, and anthropomorphic movement to create a social commentary. Story time! @nycerke and I were touring our duet, Refraction, in Atlanta in 2019. @brianjhollarsimagery had just recently moved there from NYC, where we had priorly done a dance film collab together (Fates). We met up in ATL and decided to do a super quick collab while we were there, which is when the dance film version of Refraction was born! We were only in town for three days, with one day to plan and one day to shoot. Shout out to Brian/crew for the directing, incredible quality gear, coordinating the editing team, sick location recommendation, and all the works. I have a fond memory of smacking my foot full force on a tree during a lift whilst filming. THEN, @mcdoogle25 made a killer ORIGINAL sound score for the film. How lucky are we? This piece, these people, and this time in my career are/were so near and dear to my heart. The power of collabs!! The power of creative practices combining forces!!!! Now, years later, this film will make its Arizona debut; This Saturday, May 2, as part of @blendingthemovesdancefestival ‘s Moonlight MOViES event at Arizona Center Come support dance on film, come support killer collabs, come support local artists. Happy International Women’s Day from the women of DEPTH. 💪🏼💪🏽💪🏾 Since its start in 2017, DEPTH has hired more than 35 woman-identifying artists nationally and internationally! One of DEPTH’s core missions is to support female artists in a field that is still dominated by men, even though those who pursue a career in dance are 75% women. Today we celebrate women uplifting women, physically and metaphysically. We’re here! And we continue the long fight for equality of women globally.
