Our Dawsons Hill living room is a harmony of considered details from colour to finish, materials to the sourcing of antiques, and the bespoke cabinetry running the full length of the room. The space is drenched in @edwardbulmerpaint Tawny, complemented by a deep, incarnadine red from @farrowandball on the doorways and the back panels of the alcove units. As part of the renovation, we concealed an existing door and introduced a pair of large, double glass doors, a bold statement linking the hallway and living space. The glazed panels allow light to flow freely throughout the ground floor, opening up the rooms and creating a sense of connection. Art plays a pivotal role here: two large-scale, striking artworks one from @heath_wae from @the.dot.project exhibition @studioashby and the second from @aggelikidimitriadou these became the anchor points for the entire palette, bringing depth and drama to the space. The two large antique rugs from @ourikalondon we also key in bringing a calming contrast to the warmth of the walls with these cool antique blue designs. All the details is what makes this home feel so special. Restoring the Heart of a Room ✨Before and After. This primary bedroom once felt closed in, its dark walls and large wardrobes overwhelming the space. We carefully reworked the layout and brought back its original charm, reinstating an antique fireplace with a new slate hearth, adding cornice and ceiling roses, and fitting a pocket door for a gentler flow. The original floor was lovingly restored so the room could feel warm and grounded again. Removing harsh overhead spotlights and adding softer pendant and wall lighting. With the foundations set, we layered in bespoke carpentry and quiet, considered details to create a space filled with character and calm, a room our client can truly retreat to for years to come. True to Deorling’s ethos, every detail was considered, cabinetry painted in Whitening with Masquerade internals by @littlegreenepaintcompany , and a teen mattress (75x190cm) generously gifted to our clients by @naturalmatbaby , made with organic and renewable materials 🌱. Styled with carefully sourced antiques from @deorlingantiques A @_ceraudo_ footstool and cushion and a @bucanhanstudio bespoke blind adding layers of texture and character. Hello 👋 We’ve had so many new faces join us lately, so it feels like the perfect time for a reintroduction. I’m Jessica, founder of Deorling, an East London interior design studio dedicated to breathing new life into heritage homes. Deorling was born from my love of historic architecture, traditional carpentry, and the quiet stories that old houses hold. I’m endlessly inspired by how thoughtful design can honour the past while making everyday life more beautiful and functional. After renovating my own home, I made the leap from fashion to interiors. With 17 years spent honing my craft as a fashion designer, I brought my eye for detail, fabric, and colour into this new world. When I founded Deorling in 2023, it was with the intention of translating that same sense of craft and storytelling into the spaces we live in. The result? Homes that feel timeless, soulful, and beautifully considered down to the smallest detail. Fast forward 2.5 years, pinching ourselves as we work on project no. 23, including now 5 full-house transformations. It’s been such a joy to grow in this way, and we still believe no project is too big or too small, and that every home deserves to be thoughtfully designed — the Deorling way. We offer full interior design and project management, bespoke carpentry, colour consultations and curate a selection of antiques finds. In the primary bedroom of our Dawson Hill project in East Dulwich, colour takes centre stage in the most considered way. This room underwent a full renovation: we installed new cornicing, picture rails, ceiling roses, and sash windows, and sourced an antique fireplace to reinstate a focal point. These architectural details give the room a sense of history and character, as though they have always been part of the house. The bespoke heritage wardrobes and discreet pocket door are painted in Farrow & Ball’s Calke Green, their rich, earthy tone quietly unifying the space. Walls, ceiling, and cornice are washed in Edward Bulmer’s Stone White — a warm, chalky neutral that brings calm and softness to the scheme. Anchoring the bed is a deep red rug from Nordic Knots, a bold yet grounding choice that introduces warmth underfoot. The bed is crowned with a bespoke linen canopy from Att Pynta, with matching curtains and a Roman blind for an enveloping, cocoon-like feel. A pendant lamp from Studio & Store, suspended on a striking red cord by Matilda Goad, picks up on the tones of the Nordic knots rug and draws the eye upward. The room is completed with an antique Swedish sectional mirror sourced from Folie Chambre, whose timeworn frame adds depth and patina to the space. Perched near the sweeping views of Alexandra Palace, this calm, neutral home has been transformed with a gentle, modern minimal palette. Every piece of cabinetry and woodwork was painted in @farrowandball Joa’s White, a warm and understated tone that quietly unifies the spaces. At the heart of the home, we designed a bespoke bar with brass glass racks, perfectly proportioned to display a curated collection of vintage glassware. In the bedroom, we turned the challenging pitched roof into an elegant solution: a built-in wardrobe with drawers and a mirror that creates a light-filled vanity nook — both practical and refined. Lessons in making an entrance at our Dawson Hill project ✨ We restored this hallway’s character by removing boxed-in ceilings and spotlights, adding elegant panelling and ceiling roses, and reconfiguring the layout with bespoke glazed double doors to flood the space with light. Striking @mandarinstoneofficial marble tiles ground the space, while a custom radiator cover with rattan detailing adds a softer, crafted touch. The guest bedroom at Dawson Hill East Dulwich is designed to feel calm and tranquil. We took inspiration from a midsummer sunset, painting the ceiling in Lute by @edwardbulmerpaint – a soft, warm yellow – and pairing it with off-white @farrowandball for walls and on our bespoke alcove wardrobes. The fireplace brings a joyful pop of colour in Cerulean Blue by @edwardbulmerpaint , which ties in beautifully with the commissioned artwork by @andysmithwilliamsart . To create a warm glow, we used handmade brass wall sconces from @studio.and.store over the bed, and paired them with an antique lamp topped with a blue-tipped @munroandkerr x @aconsideredspace wavy shade – a subtle nod to the fireplace hue. The room is layered with antique textiles and cushions from @thehackneydraper for a relaxed, collected feel. One of my favourite details is how the soft tone of Tawny by @edwardbulmerpaint on the banister feels somewhat connected to the room as you look out & it allows the room to flow seamlessly from the hallway. Colour is considered to the finest detail, as standard at Deorling.
