Currently in After Painting After Painting: Denie Put
Denie Put treats painting as a site of friction, where intention collides with resistance. His works are scraped, layered, transferred, erased: images surfacing not through design but through accident and interruption. Techniques such as décalcomanie and églomisé allow chance to disrupt control, turning failure into method and letting resistance itself generate form. The surfaces dismantle themselves. Images flicker into view, fleeting recognitions that dissolve before they can settle. These moments trigger pareidolia, where the familiar slips away as quickly as it appears. The supports, canvas, glass, or hybrid structures, act as volatile agents, recording time, pressure, and revision. His works do not resolve; they press back. Not images to interpret, but surfaces to endure.
