While working at BAYCAT, I met the wonderful @mahsa_vahdat while interviewing for a project for the Hewlett Commission. While getting B-Roll, her and her partner sang some of the piece they were working on premiering in October and I shed silent tears behind my directors monitor. I was so deeply moved by her voice, the story of her life, tenacity, and the inspirations for her art. After meeting Mahsa, I got introduced to her sister @marjane_vahdat who is pictured here. She asked me to collaborate on some images for her new album and similarly to Mahsa; I just felt an instant draw to her. Her depth & power & love for singing sparks so much joy within my soul; I truly love to see people doing what they love & reveling in their purpose. I will share some more of the bigger video collaboration with Mahsa & Marjane later but in the meantime here is an in camera magic moment. 💫

Just checked my last grid post and I haven’t posted since June 2023 😶‍🌫️ In Fall 2022, I started working full time as a Lead Creative Producer at @baycat . My work has been super fulfilling and has now led me to a position as Associate Creative Director, and I am so grateful for the growth, lessons, & skills I have been able to evolve into. It’s like all aspects of my journey in film, from PA > Grip > Gaffer > 1st AC > Cam Op > DP all ultimately led me to the realization that my power lies in leading, understanding & communicating with my team, and ultimately crafting & creating meaningful stories. In the beginning I had a strong sense of imposter syndrome. I always knew I had it in me to make the jump, and once I realized that other folks saw my potential as well I felt truly emboldened in my decision to move in this direction in my career. This photo is of one of the folks who chose to believe in me and I am so grateful for her support. @kahrystal , you a real one. Also huge thank you to @latajh for recommending me 🤍 As time passes, I find myself more and more driven to reconnect with my origins and passions. I love creating meaningful docu pieces but I also love running around, feral, capturing the world as I see it from behind whatever lens is at my disposal. This year I am hungry to reconnect with my passion projects, experimental art, photography, ceramic, film. I am finally able to admit to myself; I am an artist. Now; let’s make some fuckin’ art.

Her voice is ethereal, her smile is contagious, and it was such a pleasure to capture her radiance through the lens! July 21st they will be releasing their newest single, “Surrender!”. On the top of Kinosaki Onsen town, there is a shrine where you can give thanks for the hot spring waters that fill the 7 public bath houses in town. Travelers in yukata’s (a casual summertime robe) wander through the town, bathing & relaxing. Finally got back some film from Japan! For this trip I brought all #portra400 (my favorite stock 🍦) and shot everything on my trusty #nikonfe . I really love my ol camera but after Matthew got us a new digi camera I realized I should eventually think about updating my #35mm photo solution. Or maybe I’ll just rock this camera till I dies… 💭 Anyways, this photo is from a stop in Tsumago, on a section of the Nakesendo Trail. Hiking in other countries brings me immense joy and allowed me to fall even deeper in love with Japan.
