BAYCAT Staff Stand in Solidarity with Palestine
As the Israeli military resumes its devastating and lethal bombardments in Gaza, which have killed thousands of innocent people including over seven thousand children since Oct 7th, we are also seeing more direct and extreme forms of censorship aimed at those speaking out against the occupation.
As BAYCAT staff, our understanding is that as a social justice-minded organization, BAYCAT’s main mission has always been to stand against the way that the mainstream media prioritizes the lives and stories of some over others. As media workers who empower young people to tell their stories, we believe it is imperative that we stand with the young people of Palestine who are being disproportionately silenced in the most extreme and violent ways. We believe that elevating the voices of the oppressed right now involves sharing their stories with empathy and — imperatively — elevating the demands for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Palestine.
We believe that now more than ever, our actions and voices matter. We understand that the struggles of the oppressed people around the world are connected, and we stand with the people of Haiti, Congo, Sudan, Palestine, and other parts of the world in their struggles for freedom from oppression. By taking a stand and denouncing genocide, we will contribute to a more just world, where everyone has a right to tell their story.

We're so excited to collaborate with an organization that provides workforce training and support for our community. A little like BAYCAT, but for a much more delicious industry.
