So honored to have won the 2024 SXSW XR Experience Jury Award and to be able to work with the infinitely talented @dearspaceship @sisiigodly 🥳✨🌈 About The Golden Key: Imagining a future world that has suffered the worst ravages of climate change, THE GOLDEN KEY invites participants to try to reconstruct a lost mythic past by responding to prompts at computer terminals on the exhibition floor. As the installation unfolds, an open-ended progression of narrative, sight and sound is generated while the work embarks on a process of recombinant storytelling, incorporating the audience’s words with an AI that has been trained on tens of thousands of folk tales from around the world, a dataset of narrative fragments that echo our most basic stories and concerns.

Tulpamancer will see its North American Premiere at SXSW this weekend after a successful World Premiere at the Venice Film Festival last summer! Created by Marc Da Costa and Matthew Niederhauser, the machine learning VR experience explores how the intersection of generative AI and VR can shape new ways of encountering ourselves. Sitting down at a computer terminal, participants first encounter the tulpa through a series of questions about their lives. They are then invited to meet in a world prepared uniquely for them in VR by the tulpa, embarking on a journey through a series of uniquely generated scenes that evoke and question the memories of their past and potential fates. These worlds are then deleted at the end, left only to resonate in the minds of each participant. Parallels (Linz) from Onassis ONX members Marc Da Costa @marconline2000 and Matthew Niederhauser @dearspaceship can now be seen on the Hauptplatz in downtown Linz for Ars Electronica. 🌅 First commissioned through Onassis Stegi for Plásmata II, Parallels is a site-specific, responsive machine learning installation that transforms an LED wall into a portal for viewers to encounter the world and themselves through the lens of a neural network. Each moment, a camera behind the wall pulls an image of the ambient environment, which is then reinterpreted and presented on the screen through a set of visual styles reflecting the cultural and historical context of its environment. As an interactive sculpture, Parallels (Linz) seeks to embed emerging machine vision technologies directly within the landscape and built environment, questioning how new forms of artificial knowledge can be placed within a longue durée of human sense-making practices. The installation thus draws the sphere of machine vision into conversation with the surrounding architecture and the historical embeddedness of the viewer, providing an occasion to meditate on a moment when ways of seeing are being reconfigured. #arselectronica25 #onassisonx
